Dear friends and partners,

While our kids are gearing up for next week’s spring break, the Board remains hard at work driving progress for the final months of this school year and the District’s future. We have aligned with County guidance to make masking optional for all staff and students, and this week, we welcomed the community to join our Board meeting in person for the first time since 2020. We have also continued supporting our new Superintendent’s engagement and priorities laid out in his ambitious 100-Day Plan.

As we remain hopeful that the end of this crisis is near, we still have a long road ahead to ensure our students’ academic and socio-emotional recovery and continued safety after the past two years. This week, we heard from our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) to discuss their ideas for supporting students and meeting the needs of our school communities. We also approved several new investments in upgrading our school facilities, providing outdoor learning spaces, and reopening another early education center in my District at the West Valley Occupational Center. This is the second early learning program that my office has successfully pushed to reopen, and we will continue to work toward high-quality opportunities for our youngest learners districtwide.

I hope all our students have a happy, fun-filled spring break – and sending wishes for a happy Passover, Easter, and Ramadan Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Onward,

Ahead of spring break, I was thrilled to kick off the West Valley Day of Service at SOCES and help out painting a new mural at Garden Grove ES, cut the ribbon on the new reading garden and outdoor space my office funded at Stanley Mosk ES, stop by the Broadway ES book fair, visit classrooms at Westwood ES, and join local partners at our Westchester Community of Schools to support Afghan refugee students and families with food and other supplies ahead of Ramadan.
We recently hosted multiple virtual town halls to introduce our new Superintendent and his 100-Day Plan, discuss the needs of our families and schools, and meet BD4's new community members in the Reseda and Wilshire neighborhoods! Thank you to everyone who joined these conversations — click here for videos from all our past town halls
In the Spotlight: A Coeur d'Alene student finds her winning passion in art
Congratulations to Misty Srichandr, who was recently named this year’s “Rising Star” at the annual Legendary Women Artists of Venice Awards. Misty is in third grade at Coeur d’Alene, and in addition to this latest achievement, she has been recognized twice for her submissions at the Venice Holiday Poster Contest. Misty is as passionate about her work as she is talented—and exploring her creative skills has helped her learn about more than just art. Misty has gained more self-confidence and now knows that she can achieve any goal with the right amount of effort, motivation, practice, and most importantly, enjoying what she does! We're all so proud of Misty and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented rising star!
