Research Nova Scotia Announces Ukrainian Emergency Support Program
The Ukrainian Emergency Research Support Program will provide funding to undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers who are accepted by a Nova Scotian institution to continue their research work. Postsecondary research institutions and research-focused organizations are eligible hosts for the grants, which are intended to offset some of the costs of outfitting offices and labs, renting out or sharing equipment, and integrating visiting Ukrainians into a Nova Scotian education system.

Centre for Water Resources Studies Launches Public COVID-19 Wastewater Dashboard

The Centre for Water Resources Studies at Dalhousie University is proud to present its public COVID-19 wastewater dashboard. Wastewater samples from the past 18 months have been collected from four wastewater facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Project partners include Halifax WaterLuminUltra Technologies, and Research Nova Scotia.

Research Nova Scotia Announces 2021/22 Scotia Scholars Undergraduate Awards. 

Research Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the 2021/22 Scotia Scholars undergraduate award recipients at Acadia University, Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia Community College, St. Francis Xavier University, and University of Kings College. This year we are pleased to present 34 undergraduate awards totaling $121,500.

Do you work with someone who is changing technology and science for the betterment of society? Help Discovery Centre celebrate them on November 23rd at the 20th Annual Discovery Awards.

Nominate a candidate today in one of four categories:
  • Professional of Distinction – A leader and innovator in their field, a role model for those who pursue science as a career
  • Science Champion – An individual, organization, or program that promotes science and technology education and STEM careers, and/or makes science better understood by the public
  • Innovation – An enterprise that has developed a commercially viable product or service, either market-ready or in its early-stages
  • Emerging Professional – An individual who is early in their career and demonstrates research excellence, knowledge sharing, and potential for ongoing growth and development

Funding Opportunities
The 2022 Legacy Research Grant is now open
For more than 30 years, The Lung Association of Nova Scotia (LANS) has offered an annual Legacy Research Grant competition to support respiratory health-related research efforts in Nova Scotia. The aim of the Legacy Research Grant is to provide financial support for research projects that generate evidence, outcomes, and/or knowledge and its translation into improved respiratory health and health services for Nova Scotians.
 
LANS is continuing its partnership with Research Nova Scotia to offer this competition and is now accepting applications for the 2022 competition.
 
Application deadline is May 13, 2022.

NSERC Discovery Grants Program Now Accepting Notifications of Intent to Apply

It is time to start preparing your Discovery Grant application. A notification of intent to apply (NOI) must be submitted by the deadline date of Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 8:00 p.m. (ET).

The NOI is mandatory when applying for a Discovery Grant. Applicants who do not submit an NOI cannot submit a full application. The information contained in the NOI allows NSERC to start some aspects of the review process, including the preliminary assignment to an evaluation group, the selection of external reviewers and the verification of the eligibility of the subject matter.

Season 2, Episode 8: Climate Change & Agriculture

In this episode, we explore how resilient our land-based farms and farm-related businesses are to the impacts of global climate change, as well as solutions researchers and farmers are exploring to help improve our ability to adapt long-term. We hear from industry experts on how climate change is currently impacting our agri-food industry, what solutions are being implemented successfully, and discuss how we can best prepare for future climate-related challenges.

This episode features Dr. Alana Pindar of Cape Breton University and Rosalie Madden, the On-Farm Climate Action Fund Technical Project Manager at Perennia Food and Agriculture.

Survey on Dementia Care in Nova Scotia

Researchers at Nova Scotia Health are seeking input from families and healthcare providers on the current health and social needs of persons with dementia, as well as their experiences with telehealth. Help identify and understand the current needs of persons with dementia and explore ways in which telehealth can be used to improve care in Nova Scotia by completing this research survey.
 

Who can participate?

  • Nova Scotians with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia living in the community

  • Family members, caregivers, and care partners of Nova Scotians living in the community with dementia

  • NSH healthcare professionals who provide dementia care

  • ASNS program and services staff members
     

What does it involve?

  • A survey (20-30 mins) on your experiences with dementia care in Nova Scotia
