Mic Mac AAC Rowing News
April 10, 2022

It's time to open the doors and dust off the oars!

Dear MicMac AAC Rowers,

We're less than two weeks away from the start of the spring on-water programs! And, for the first time since the fall of 2019, it looks like we will have a full program without Covid interruptions! Registration for the 2022 spring, summer and fall programs is now active on the Rowing Canada website: MicMacAACRowing

As we gear up for the season, we're happy to share a few important notes:
  • Coaches: Led by our Head Coach, Rick Storm, have an excellent team of part-time and full-time coaches, many of whom are returning this year.
  • Schedule: Programs begin April 19 and will end October 30. Due to the world Canoe Kayak Championships (Canoe22) being held in Dartmouth in the first week of August, we will not offer rowing programs from July 30 - August 7.
  • Regattas: The regatta schedule is at:  http://www.rowns.ca/events/ . Note that the regatta schedule has been modified due to Canoe 22. For those of you who plan to compete at out of province events, please contact Rick Storm ASAP regarding travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Volunteer opportunities: there are many opportunities in the club and at regattas! The Mic Mac AAC Board of Directors AND the Rowing Committee are looking for members! Please contact Linda Young (lindayoung839@gmail.com)  if you're interested in getting involved in the club on the board or a committee or in another capacity. Also, this year our club will be "hosting" a regatta, and will need volunteers to help out - please connect with Rick Storm for more information.
  • Promoting rowing: If you have friends and neighbours who might be interested in trying rowing, please let them know that our Learn to Row programs are a great way to try it out. This is a lifelong sport for many people, and it can begin at any age!
  • Club Logo: Mic Mac AAC has a new logo! We are in the process of removing the former logo from our equipment. Also new singlets are being ordered. If you need a new singlet, please email Rick Storm by April 25 and include your size.
Finally, we'd like to recognize some achievements of members of our Mic Mac AAC rowing community:
  • Rick Storm was named the coach of the Nova Scotia Canada Games Rowing Team. Well done Rick!
  • Beast of the East: Many of the MMAAC rowers achieved great results in the indoor competitions this winter. See http://www.rowns.ca/beast-of-the-east/
That's it for now! Please connect with one of us if you have any questions.

Your MMAAC Rowing Committee:
Linda Young, Tracy Brown, Rick Storm, Lexie Leggat, Rhonda Wilson, Cynthia Hoskins, Spencer Scott, Mark Sebestik
