Commodore's notes

With Easter on the doorstep ‘life returns’ to the club. There is noticeable activity around the yard and action at the carparks an slipway.

In the background we had a lot of activity, the headline being Alastair securing a sizeable grant but we also interacted with the Council via John Morton the Harbours Manager, the Cushendall Development Group and ran a ‘Navigation without Electronics’ course.

We have been in Discussion with Campbeltown about this year’s events and are trying to finalise the detail of the calendar.

As you will see elsewhere in Ebb & Flow Sailing and Junior Sailing starts this Easter Weekend.

Lots happening but I am looking forward to the return of sailing and of course the Italian Night. I hope many of you will come along, Clodagh has made a big effort to revive this party and it was always a great launching pad for the social year at CSBC.

Sailing update

With Easter upon us, people are busy painting, polishing and rigging their boats ensuring (in anticipation of the season ahead) that everything is 'Ship-shape and Bristol fashion’.

It’s understood that there have been one or two new purchases into the club and no doubt the new owners are particularly keen to be getting out on the water.

The Sailing Committee have assembled a calendar which details the various fixtures and events through to the end of 2022 (which will be published on the Club website soon). It starts with dinghy racing for the Egg Race on Easter Sunday and the Emily Tankard on Easter Monday – the warning signal for both races will be 1200.

The dinghy sailors had a very enjoyable Autumn & Winter series to finish off last year and it would be great to see a good turn out this Spring.

Anyone interested in supporting the sailing by volunteering as Race Officer, rescue boat driver or rescue boat crew should contact me on  07739 879433.

Details will be communicated as soon as they are finalised.

CSBC awarded £10,000 under Covid Omicron Hospitality Scheme

Good News! The Club has been successful in its application to the ‘Covid Omicron Hospitality Scheme’ – the £40m fund set up by government to support the NI Hospitality sector recover from the impact of the Pandemic.

The Club’s income has been greatly impacted as a result of the restrictions and closures over the last 24 months, this additional funding will help us attend to some much needed maintenance/replacement projects. We have an increasing list of areas needing attention including (in no particular order!)– Sailing School Equipment, Kitchen Equipment, Function room furniture, Building repainting, to name but a few!

Fishing update

Big thanks to Sean Trowlen for getting the fishing going again in the club. Sean is planning dates for the season and will post them on Facebook.

As it’s early in the season we decided not to fish for a Trophy, so had a nice catch and release day instead on 26th March 2022. A big thanks to all the boats for making the effort.
