Hello from Florida!

Dear <<First Name>>,

I am so relieved to share that we’re all okay after Hurricane Ian. We live just south of Cape Canaveral, and we were directly in the path of the storm’s eye. We saw extreme winds blowing in one direction and then the next day they blew in the opposite direction. It was surreal. After three days of being blasted with winds and rain, we spent all day yesterday cleaning up branches and clearing the street. But, we had no damage to us or to our house and for that we are so very grateful!

There’s also so much happening this month that I wanted to share with you before we all get busy again…

🎃My auction for #awetober2022 starts today on Instagram. I’ll be auctioning off 2 art prints and an Abuelita and I Make Flan signed book pack. 50% of proceeds go to coral reef restoration and 50% for manatees.

🎃Local Event: On Monday, October 3, I’ll be reading from my book and talking about my journey into publishing at the Merritt Island Library, 5pm. (FREE)

🎃Virtual Event: October 11, I’m one of the panelists at the Latinx Kidlit Book Festival Debut Do’s and Don’ts panel with Claribel Ortega and Amparo Ortiz! (FREE)

FLAN CLUB #8 - Pumpkin Flan 🍮

Our flan this month is flan de calabaza. This flan is a fall favorite. The recipe is adapted from the one my aunt Alina sent me while I was on the hunt for fall-flavored flans. Think of it as a crust-free pumpkin custard!

AWEtober Auction

Awetober is happening again this year, and I have signed up to auction my work from October 1-10! I’m traveling a lot in the second half of the month, so I couldn’t stretch it out longer. Sorry!

This year I’m supporting the Coral Restoration Foundation which helps coral reef restoration in Florida (https://www.coralrestoration.org/) AND Save the Manatees (https://www.savethemanatee.org/) an organization my aunt Alina -of the pumpkin flan recipe- introduced me to after last year’s Awetober. Save the Manatee has been rescuing and supporting manatee rehabilitation and species protections since 1981.

October 3: Join me if you’re in town for a reading of my book and hear about my journey into publishing at the Merritt Island Library’s Hispanic Heritage Month Book Talk, 5pm. (FREE, in-person)

October 11: At the LKBF’s Debut Authors Expectations Panel, I’ll be sharing the virtual stage with Claribel Ortega and Amparo Ortiz to talk about what it’s been like as a debut author! (FREE, Virtual)
