Two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a puzzle has emerged in several advanced economies: unfilled job vacancies have increased sharply even though employment has yet to fully recover. To shed light on this important issue, the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will host a virtual regional seminar with Myrto Oikonomou and Ippei Shibata, both Economists in the IMF’s Research Department and coauthors of a forthcoming study on the topic. The presentation will discuss the causes of tight labor markets, the impact on wage developments, and policy options to reduce labor market pressures.
