Letter from the President
Hello SDPCA members,
I hope you all are enjoying your spring! San Diego is certainly enjoying its usual game of hot/cold/sunny/overcast/random day of rain/scorching hot. As someone who works outside, I get the pleasure of feeling every bit of the day's offering. And in my job, I do the same things no matter what kind of weather it is! Animals gotta eat. I always found it funny when I moved to the highlands of Tanzania during my first service that the weather was pretty similar to San Diego, complete with lots of eucalyptus trees. I moved halfway across the world, literally, to live in a place just like the one I left!
My time in Peru did offer a change of weather with very definitive wet and dry seasons complete with their accompanying seasons of bug plagues. However, as an environment volunteer in both places, I still had my share of outside work and I wouldn't have it any other way.
To this day, my service in Peru has been my favorite job ever. I've been asked that question in a job interview and it was a no brainer. My Peace Corps service in Peru combined my love of travel and living abroad in a new environment surrounded by a new culture with my passion for zookeeping. I'll always be grateful that my Peace Corps service allowed me that opportunity.
What did your service offer you that you will always be grateful for? Do you miss the weather in your host country? Take a moment to reminisce.
And finally, take a moment to make sure you've got our Taste the World event marked on your calendars! On Saturday, May 14th, we're back with our feast of soups and stews from around the world prepared by your very own members. This year we will be combining our Annual meeting with the Taste the World event so you don't want to miss it! See you there!
Extra points if you know what kind of animal I'm with in the picture!
Wishing you health and love,
Tina Silva
