SKIP flew in and rejoined its mothership (fathership?) sailboat BOB.
Our trip back to Sitka commenced in Bellingham. A couple of sunny warm days in the San Juan Islands really set the stage. We are currently on northern Vancouver Island in Port McNeill awaiting weather to get around the notorious Cape Caution. We spotted our first bear of the year as it sauntered off in Port Neville, and Blain enjoyed the gourmet delights found only in Canada.
Our good friends are aboard and we could not be happier. Terry and Martha were our inspiration to begin sailing when Monique worked with Terry as a Landscape Architect. We used to meet up with them in Prince William Sound where they introduced us to gin & tonics after long hikes with the dogs, and their daughter Whitney and their boat Spot. These photos are from way back in 2004.
Monique enjoyed the fruits of our labor as we took the BOB out for her birthday to Matia Island in the San Juan Islands with our wonderful cousins Krista, J and Lyndsay. We spotted orcas!

Summer is nearly full

Our summer schedule is almost filled up for this season and we are thrilled! Thank you to everyone coming aboard in 2022. There are a couple of trips (and single cabins) open, but not many.

We have a prime August 15-22 trip open to explore Admiralty Island, known by the Tlingit as "Kootznoowoo -the Fortress of the Bears", Baranof Warm Springs, and the fun towns of Petersburg and Juneau. Hurry and book if you've been thinking about it!

UPDATE ON "OUR" WHALE

We have been notified that we successfully "named" HW-MN0401298 'Otis" to honor the incredible contributions of our friend and inspiring scientist Jan Straley of the University of Alaska Southeast. Otis was the name of Jan's loyal black lab as well as the skiff she used for decades to track and study whales in Alaska. Jan, not surprisingly, also has her own website, and if you'd like to read some of her amazing research, take a look here

"Naming" a whale helps protect these majestic creatures. To do so, it takes a monetary donation to whale conservation. We've had a few folks say "yes!" - so let us know if you would like to help. We will pool our resources and do some good.
We had a nice visit with the founder of Sound Sailing - Rick - in Anacortes, while we were in Bellingham. His new boat Polar Mist is also getting a major refit for the summer with the goal of sailing through the Northwest Passage.
We hope you can come sailing with us soon.
