April 2022 Newsletter
Welcome to the Breaston Pre-School April Newsletter!
We hope that all our families have had a fantastic Easter break, and we can't wait to welcome the children back into setting on Monday!

Please support our healthy eating message by not sending leftover Easter chocolate in children's lunchboxes.
As the weather warms up, please ensure that children are attending wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, with a sun hat clearly labelled with their name. If needed, please apply suncream before your child attends Pre-School, and if they are in all day please supply suncream labelled with your child's name for us to apply after lunch club.

Please read on to find out how much you helped raise at our Easter fundraisers, information for and action required by this year's school leavers, session requests for next year, staffing changes, topic news, and more!
Easter Fundraisers
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored their children for participating the Bunny Bounce, donated eggs/cakes/etc, bought raffle tickets, volunteered their time to help out or attended the Easter Concert last term.
The Easter concert raised a generous £185.76, so together with the Bunny Bounce sponsorship monies you raised an incredible £896.41! The funds will be spent on new topic resources for the children, and new storage for us to keep resources in.
Primary School Places
We hope that all our school leavers got their first choice of primary school, but don't despair if you didn't. We have no direct involvement with school allocations but you can appeal via the council website. If you haven't received an email yet please check on the council website, or wait for your offer letter to arrive in the post.

Once you have your child's school place confirmed, please fill out this form. This allows us to make contact with your child's school and arrange for their transition from Pre-School to Primary School.

School Readiness
If you had a consultation with your child's keyworker at the end of last term then you probably had a conversation about your child's school readiness, but you may find it useful to read the information provided by Derbyshire County Council:

The 10 keys for unlocking school readiness*
(*If a child is developing typically for their age)
• I can settle happily without my parent or carer
• I can tell grown-ups and friends what I need
• I can take turns to play and share when I’m playing
• I can go to the toilet on my own and wash my hands
• I can put on my own coat and shoes and feed myself
• I can tell a grown-up if I’m happy, sad or cross
•I know that what I do and say can make others happy or unhappy
• I am curious and want to learn and play
• I can stop doing what I’m doing, listen and follow simple instructions
• I enjoy sharing books with grown-ups

For more information please visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/readyforschool and please get in touch if you have any concerns regarding your child's readiness.
Session Requests for September 2022
As we have received a number of enquiries about September sessions, we are releasing the session booking forms early this year. If you know the sessions that you will require from September 2022 then please let us know using this form.
Please do not worry if you do not yet know your session requirements, we will remind you again next month. We ask that all session requests are made by Friday 27th May.
While current Pre-School families get priority session allocation over new starters, please note that we cannot guarantee that we can offer you every session that you request. Sarah will be in touch before the end of Summer term to confirm your child's session allocation.

If you wish to enrol a younger sibling or know someone who wishes to send their child to Pre-School next year, please visit https://breastonpreschool.com/registration/ and fill out a registration form ASAP, as we have a waiting list in place for September and would hate for anyone to miss out on a place!
Please note that there will be a fee increase in September, to cover the increase in the national minimum wage, and the other increasing costs faced by Pre-School. The increase will be communicated as soon as the trustees have calculated it, but won't come into place until September.
 Staffing Changes
We are delighted to announce that Kayleigh will start working full time at Pre-School from Monday.
Having been a part of Pre-School for over 5 years with her own children, secretary of our previous parent committee, a founding trustee of the CIO charity, and a regular volunteer in setting, Kayleigh is already well known by all the children and many of the parents and carers. Kayleigh is excited to start her level 3 Childcare qualification after Easter.
As all of our sessions are now full, having another full-time member of staff will enable us to start offering Forest School sessions very soon!
Kayleigh is continuing as a trustee, and we will soon be welcoming on board two new charity trustees.
Topic: People Who Help Us
One of our topics next term will be 'People Who Help Us'. If any parents/carers or other family members work/volunteer in a profession that helps other people in the community and are available to come into Pre-School to talk to the children about what they do, please let us know! This topic will run to the end of the academic year in July. Either speak to a staff member, give us a ring (during term time), or drop Sarah an email if you can help!
Photo Wall - Important People and Family
The photo board has been a huge success with the children, they have loved looking at and discussing all the photographs of everyone's families and special people. We have decided to keep this for the rest of the year, so if you have yet to send any photographs in then please do so! Also if you'd like to send in updated photos or welcome a new family member (or pet!) then we'd love some updated photos too. You can either send in physical photographs with your child (please note that we can't promise that they will be returned undamaged), or email them to Sarah to print.

Toys from Home
Please can children not bring in toys from home, as they cause arguments between the children and we cannot guarantee that they won't be lost or damaged.
A comfort toy that younger children need to settle at Pre-School is of course allowed, although parents of school leavers may wish to start the process of weaning their child from needing a comforter before they start school in September. Please speak to your child's keyworker if you need any additional support with this.
 Breaston Yard Sale - Sunday 15th May 10 am - 4 pm
We're taking part in the Breaston Community Forum Yard Sale!
We'll be selling off resources that we no longer use, lots of toys, games, soft toys, and books, as well as items from our storage unit like wine glasses and Christmas decorations. We'll also be offering teas, coffee, and other refreshments for a small donation.
If you have any good quality items that you'd like to rehome but aren't taking part in the yard sale yourself, then please consider donating them to us to sell! Due to storage limitations, we cannot accept any donations in advance, so please bring anything you wish to donate to our stall on Sunday morning before 10 am.
Donations
This coming term we will be focusing on gardening and growing! With this in mind, we would love any donations of compost, pots, seeds, herbs or bedding plants that anyone may have going spare.
We're still gratefully taking any past-their-best flower arrangements too!
Transitioning from First Steps to Famly
First Steps, the nursery management software we use at Pre-School, has been taken over by Famly. This means that we will be transitioning over to the Famly management system over the next month. This means that we will cease sending invoices and observations via the Parent Link app from First Steps, and a new, much improved and interactive Famly app will be available instead. We're excited by the improvement that this new software can offer in terms of communication with parents and carers, hopefully making it easier for us to send out news and for you to manage your child's information. Please keep an eye out for further emails later this month with all the information you will need to download and sign-in on the new app.

Take care,
Breaston Pre-School
