From the Head of School

Dear Gardner families,

Last week was a wonderful chance to practice being prepared for anything as our weather was a little extra wild coming back from Spring Break! I'm always impressed with how our children dive into play opportunities that arise in these unplanned moments, and I love watching them create and connect across grade levels at recess.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to see many of you at our upcoming 2022 Giving Gala, this Saturday on the Gardner School campus. Our admin team and teachers have been busy, working with volunteers to bring the vision together with the goal of offering our families and community supporters a way to connect with one another. For some, this may be their first time on campus in the last couple of years. For all of us, this evening will serve as an opportunity to celebrate our community while keeping the focus on what matters most- providing a space to cultivate authentic learning through integrated experiences in a supportive community.

With thanks,

Giving Gala 2022

Volunteers Needed!

We could still use volunteers to support the work going on behind the scenes. You can find our sign up list for volunteers here.

Learning in Action

Outrigger Canoe Field Trip
We got a lucky break in the weather for our Wy'East students to go on an amazing outrigger canoe field trip last week! They overcame some nerves, worked together to paddle, and explored the beautiful surroundings. As part of their year-long overarching theme of navigation, learning how people use boats and waterways to get around connects with their big picture. Thank you to Mountain Home Canoe Club for hosting them!
Gardner School Parent Book Club

We hosted our first meeting of the Gardner School Parent Book Club this morning, and it was a great chance to connect and learn from our expert in the field, Gardner parent and licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Ashley Taylor. These meetings are intended to support parents as we all navigate how to best prepare our children to be happy and successful.

It's not too late to join, and you don't even have to be all caught up with the reading to attend! Share your interest on this survey, or reach out to Courtney Tomlinson at ctomlinson@gardnerschool.org for more information.
Staffing Update
Mahalo, Teacher Amelia!
Teacher Amelia is off to a new adventure next year as she moves to Hawaii!

We appreciate everything she has brought to the Gardner School over the last several years, from being a student teacher to leading our 3rd and 4th graders in Wy'East.

We know it's not goodbye, just "a hui hou," or "see you later!" Teacher Amelia is already planning ways to connect the Gardner School students with students at her next school in Kauai.

Campus snapshots

All the weather excitement didn't stop our students from diving right into their spring thematics! Our campus was busy with wetlands discoveries, garden projects, and snow play.
Gardner School Covid-19 Dashboard
Keeping all of our students in school depends on our families following the requests below for screening for symptoms.

1. In the last 72 hours, has your child had one or more of the following symptoms: fever > 100.4 F, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of smell/taste?

2. Has your child been in close contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 or has a public health or medical professional told your child to self isolate or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID-19 infection?

3. If any of the answers to these questions are yes, have you emailed health@gardnerschool.org and been cleared to be on campus? If not, please remain off campus until cleared.
