Survey for the Future of Hopewell City MarinaHopewell Recreation & Parks has launched a public comment survey to help guide the future of the waterfront at the Hopewell City Marina. The project aims to improve equitable access to a variety of recreational opportunities on the water and to create a number of environmental enhancements that will help protect our rivers for generations to come. The public comment survey will be open through May 12, 2022. |

| John Randolph Foundation Awards Proactive Trail GrantFOLAR recently took the trustees and staff of John Randolph Foundation on a guided tour of the 25-mile Appomattox River Trail. The tour culminated in a proactive grant made through the Ursula M. Gibbs Memorial Endowment at JRF, which will be doubled through our . Thanks to Aaron Reidmiller with Hopewell Recreation & Parks for providing shuttle service for the day. Gerdau Petersburg Steel Mill Gives BackOur new friends at Gerdau Petersburg Steel Mill are teaming up with FOLAR as stewards of the environment and the Appomattox River. Their grant supports our invasive species removal program on the Appomattox River Trail and includes sponsorships for our 5K Trail Run-Walk, and the Paddle-or-Battle. Pictured: FOLAR Board Member, Tammie Judge Collins and Development Director, Kiffy Werkheiser, accept a grant of $3K from members of the Gerdau Institute Committee. Welcome to the Team, Elise!We are excited to welcome our newest staff member, Elise Neuscheler, FOLAR’s Invasive Plants Educator & Volunteer Coordinator. Elise will be implementing an invasive plant management program that will help to restore native plant and wildlife habitats, protect our viewshed, and ultimately improve water quality along the Appomattox River.
