IN Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

African American Choral Ensemble Spring Concert

Saturday, April 30, 2022
7:30 PM – 10:00 PM

Ruth N. Halls Theatre
275 N. Eagleson Avenue

The African American Choral Ensemble will present the world premiere of Dr. Raymond Wise's Gospel Mass. For centuries, the world's great composers have set the Ordinary of the Mass in a wide variety of styles, from classical to jazz. Wise joins the ranks by setting the mass in various contemporary African American gospel musical styles. The work includes settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei, and ends with a 16-fold Amen. Together these musical works will provide a soulful and inspirational experience.

The Emmy Award-winning African American Choral Ensemble preserves the legacy of African American choral music through transformative interpretations of this unique American art form. Founded in 1975, the Choral Ensemble features a broad repertoire including spirituals, folk forms, traditional and contemporary gospel music, and formally composed works by African American composers.

The African American Choral Ensemble is a course offered for academic credit through the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies instructed by Dr. Raymond Wise, and it is a unit of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs at Indiana University.
