Expression of Interest: Seeking Consultation Partner
Referencing guidance for Indigenous Knowledges
Since the end of 2018, academic librarians in Victoria have been discussing and consulting on ways in which we work with First Nations people to co-create referencing guidance that is inclusive of Indigenous Knowledges and Knowledge-sharing practices. In early 2020, the CAVAL Acknowledging Cultural authority and Indigenous Knowledges in referencing Working Group (CACIK) was formed and consulted First Nations and settler academics, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) representatives, and library professionals. CACIK is made up of four settler librarians. Our consultation group recommended that this project should not proceed without Indigenous leadership in the group. This aspect was recognised as a necessity by CACIK and to support this recommendation and apply for CAVAL funding, a comprehensive environmental scan of the landscape of acknowledging Indigenous knowledges in referencing was undertaken in 2021. With funding having been approved, we are now seeking the assistance of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander consultant in taking the next step on this project. The budget is $5,000.

CAVAL Customer Services & Collaboration Network (CSCN) Community of Practice events are an opportunity to meet your peers from other University and TAFE libraries and make connections.
The first COP titled What is the new normal? will feature a series of lightning talks where the library frontline services staff will share their stories of the current time of 'new beginnings', as we increasingly return to on-campus work.
The second, Changing ‘inaccessible’ to ‘accessible’ for our students will bring to you a number of speakers as they share their experiences of creating, utilising, and redeveloping accessible library services across TAFE and University libraries. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after both events.
