Dear KTC Community Members,

There’s lots to tell you about as we get close to the club’s official opening. From a great lineup of tournaments and a new doubles social event to Tony Roth’s Noble Tennis School group clinics, our spring tennis season has something for everyone! And our club stewards, whom we introduce in this issue, will play a big role in making sure everything runs smoothly.

Spring Cleanup - Volunteers Needed

Saturday, April 23rd

Please join us at 10:30 or so to help out with spring cleaning: putting up windscreens, raking the few remaining leaves, cleaning courts, etc. Bring a rake, help for an hour or so, then stay to play! Rain date Sunday. The club officially opens on Monday, April 25th  with limited on-site services, as most stewards won’t begin work until Monday, May 2nd. Luke Webb, in his new role as senior steward and operations managers, starts work in mid-April and will be at the club weekdays to help out in any way he can.
Courts now open for nighttime play!

We’ve opened the booking system so members can play well into the evening hours. But with the remote lighting system not yet turned on because of construction, we are counting on members to manage the lights judiciously.

IMPORTANT: Since the remote on-off system won't be available until the electronics are reinstalled in the kiosk, the lights can now only be operated manually from the box on the pole by Court 6.  With no steward regularly on duty at night, it will be up to the members playing to manage the lights. The light panel will be left unlocked and there's a reminder notice with instructions posted by the courts. In particular, the last group to leave each night MUST turn off the lights (and lock up) - there are instructions inside the panel and near the gate to the back courts; we'll also put up a reminder inside the club's main gate! (Out of respect for our neighbours, we cannot leave the lights burning (money) all night.)

This member-driven self-serve lighting system worked very well last fall, and we hope to continue with it until the clubhouse opens. If for some reason you are having a problem turning the lights on or off, you can call Gary Wilson at (613-544-0625).

Balls and passes

Although stewards won't be around as much in April, you will be able to use our website to purchase parking passes and balls by the half-case, pay by e-transfer and arrange to pick them up from Luke.

Porta-what?

Yes, we may have to rent a portable toilet for a few weeks to accommodate our members, depending on progress with the clubhouse renovations.
Switch Doubles Social

Save the Date! KTC presents the “Switch Doubles” Social on Saturday, May 28th. To kick off the tennis season we will be incorporating a fun 1-day tennis social where we make up the teams and people will change doubles partners every match (1 set per match). Depending on sign-ups, we will run men’s, women’s, mixed and open doubles games. The event will include a BBQ (hot dogs and hamburgers) and will be a great way to meet new members!

More details coming soon!

Yaoting Zhang steps down from the Board
We regret to announce that Yaoting recently resigned from the KTC Board. We thank him for his service and many contributions. Yaoting is an enthusiastic and active member, and we look forward to his continued involvement in the Club’s activities and events – and to seeing him out playing on the courts as well, of course.

Introducing our 2022 Clubhouse Staff
I'm Luke! I have been a KTC member for 10+ years and a steward for the past 3 years. This year I am excited to be taking on the role of Senior Steward & Operations Manager. Last spring I completed my degree in Sport Management at Brock University. In my spare time I enjoy watching and playing sports, spending time with friends, and playing video games. Looking forward to a fun and exciting tennis season at the KTC!

Currently, I'm a grade 12 high school student at L.C.V.I., and in the fall will be going to Queen's University for Economics. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and learning about different types of cuisines and desserts. I also enjoy keeping up with sports such as tennis, basketball, and more recently Formula One. I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with KTC and its members this season.

Hi everyone, my name is Rishi! I will be heading into my first year of University in the fall doing a dual degree in Commerce & Law. I have been a member of the Kingston Tennis Club since I was young, and have enjoyed being a camper, volunteer as well as camp counselor over the years. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis, hockey & golf. I am happy to say that I will be returning this year as a steward & camp instructor! I look forward to meeting everyone and having an amazing season with our lovely new clubhouse!
We are happy to also welcome Pilar back to the club again this year for her third season. Pilar is a K.C.V.I. graduate, currently studying Life Sciences at Queen's.

Call for Musical Talent

We are in search of musical talents within our membership. If you are a musician (i.e. singer, harp player, etc.) and would be interested to perform at our event, please contact Tracey Corrigan to further discuss the possibilities!
2022 KTC Tournaments - Update Your Calendars

As we mentioned in our last newsletter, the completion date for the new clubhouse has been pushed back a bit (late June or early July) as the Anglin team awaits delivery of windows, glass railings and interior doors. All other aspects of construction are proceeding smoothly, with interior painting now underway, and the exterior staircase, kiosk and decks almost finished.

Without proper facilities in place (including changerooms and washrooms), the Board has decided to postpone the KTC Cup tournament to our alternate date in late September. Please see the full schedule of tournaments below.
