AQB Student Abroad Experience: “Exploring the world in 40 minutes each week!”

By Raghad Afghani

"When you study abroad, every step is a learning experience," they say. Since enrolling at AQB, one of my main aspirations has been to study abroad. Every semester, I remind myself of that dream. I'm sure many students have or had that dream as well. The difference is who decides to work hard to seize the opportunity! As a result, the key to attaining your ambition is to act now.
Diversity, exploring cultures, discovering art and history and exchanging knowledge are just a few of the advantages of studying abroad. To be honest, I don't have the words to express how much I learned and grew through this experience, but I will try to share a little of it with you.

AQB Senior Student, Raghad Afghani, Berlin, 2022.

I am Raghad Afghani, a fourth-year student at AQB. I am majoring in Human Rights and International Law with a minor in Media Studies. I was fortunate to be chosen to study in Berlin, the most diverse city in the world! Berlin is famous for its historical buildings that stand alongside modern architecture as the past and present intermingle, and I am obsessed with that! Bard Berlin is a college with open arms to many students from all over the world. Many refugees are studying there and that was one of the greatest things that human rights students could ever have; or at least me!
I am very interested in refugees` rights hence I took a course there which discussed the cultures of migrants. This class was full of refugee students from different countries and regions, therefore it was like traveling and exploring the world in 40 minutes once per week! That is a priceless experience that I had. Sharing personal experiences among us was a significant role for each one of us to represent our country and be the voice of the people there. Additionally, one of the unforgettable things and precious parts of studying abroad is meeting new people who became your friends later, and you lived special moments with them that you will not forget for life!

Last but not least, traveling is not only exploring new places but it could be part of exploring your inner self. Abroad, I discovered a new version of myself: a responsible, independent, social, adventurous, patient, open-minded girl, and a good chef! This is not vanity, but I mention it because it is a great achievement that I fulfilled during that experience! It is worth to highlight that I faced some challenges, for sure, but these challenges were the flavors of experiencing life abroad!
Finally, if you have the opportunity, do not miss the chance to apply for the abroad study programs! Remember, what is yours will find you.
