We are talking this quarter about being willing as it relates to our “G.R.O.W.” theme. Willingness marks not only an attitude, but also a decision followed by action. As we celebrate Good Friday and Easter this weekend, let's pause to look at one of the most profound examples of willingness in history: Jesus Christ.
The biblical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John tell the story of Jesus' time on earth in human form. These accounts culminate in his death and resurrection. If you want to learn more, I Corinthians 15:3–4 provides a quick summary, and the full story is located in Luke 22–24. For now, I will just point out a few things specifically related to our quarter's theme of willingness.
First, Jesus submitted his own will to that of God the Father. (Luke 22:42) The act of submitting to someone else is challenging for most of us. We like to make our own decisions about the course our lives will take, and the idea of trading independence for submission is hard to grasp. We expect students to submit to those in authority. As adults we can model this for them by willingly submitting to the authorities in our lives–whether it’s our own parents, bosses, church leaders, or government authorities.
Second, Jesus’ willingness was not based on securing the best outcome for himself, but the best outcome for mankind (Romans 5:6–8). We can model this for our students by willingly giving up our own rights in favor of someone else. There are many opportunities to practice this at home, such as letting someone else choose the television show to watch or what to eat for dinner. As we drive, we can practice this by yielding the right of way to others. We can hold the door and let others enter first as we shop. Some of these things take very little sacrifice, but lifelong habits are built one small step at a time.
Jesus set an example of accomplishing the goals set out for him by being willing to both submit to outside authority and sacrifice himself for the good of others (John 17:2–4). We can follow this example regardless of our religion or faith.
I want to close with one of my favorite verses from the Bible. It is a part of Jesus’ prayer just before his trial and crucifixion and sums up the purpose of Good Friday and Easter. "And what is eternal life? It is knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" John 17:3.
Have a Blessed Easter Weekend,

School Holiday Good Friday
성 금요일 학교 휴일 耶稣受难日学校假期
|
|
|
Tomorrow, Friday, April 15, there will be no school in observance of Good Friday. Classes will resume on Monday, April 18.
Good Friday is the Christian holiday that honors the death of Jesus as the sacrifice for our sin, and preceded His resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday. So... what's so good about Good Friday? Why not “Bad Friday” or something similar? The name Good Friday is appropriate because the suffering and death of Jesus – as terrible as it was – marked the dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save the world.
Special Campus Hours:
Thursday, April 14: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday, April 15 to Sunday, April 17: Campus Closed
Monday, April 18: Classes Resume

All Divisions Half Day, April 29
|
|
|
The Junior-Senior Banquet (JSB) is one of Dalat’s richest and most treasured traditions. Our Juniors have been hard at work to plan this year’s JSB to honor the Dalat's Graduating Class of 2022. This formal evening will include childhood photos, skits, music, and tributes that speak words of encouragement and blessing.
Due to the preparation of the event, all divisions will have a half day of school on April 29. All students who are not involved with JSB should be off campus when it closes at 1:00 p.m.

Dalat International School is proud to announce the 2021–22 inductees into the National Honor Society (NHS).
The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories. Students are nominated for NHS based on four criteria:
-
Scholarship — Students at Dalat must have a 3.75 cumulative GPA at the time of induction, are currently in grade 11 or 12, and have attended Dalat at least two consecutive semesters.
-
Service — This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
-
Leadership — Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
-
Character — The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

3 weeks of preparation. 14 countries. 5 continents. 40 dishes. 79 buyers. Lots of love. RM9,723 raised! This sums up our second “drive-through style” International Food Fair! Although we can’t wait for the restrictions to lift so that we can enjoy each other’s cooking in person (hopefully next spring!), it was a thrill to have the drive-through on campus this year. It was a beautiful day filled with sunshine, laughter, festive streamers, and delightful aromas. Our Dalat Parent-Teacher Organization wants to say a heartfelt "THANK YOU!" to all who cooked, ordered, packed, organized, purchased, volunteered, and gave financially — we truly have an amazing community here at Dalat! The money raised goes directly to the PTO fund and is used to bless our school as needs arise. Click here for a glimpse of the day.
