Now on display | Luke Jerram's Gaia

Visitors can gaze upon the Earth as if from space, without ever having to leave the atmosphere. This awe-inspiring art installation, called Gaia, is by the same artist who first brought Museum of the Moon to Melbourne in 2018. For the first time, this stunning artwork is being displayed in an indoor setting in Australia, suspended in the central crossing of the Cathedral.

Opening Panel Event

 Friday 22 April | 4.30pm

Join us for the official opening of Gaia on United Nations World Earth Day. The opening event will feature a panel with leading experts and thinkers exploring what’s next in our fight to mitigate a climate emergency.

Panellists
• Sally Capp, Lord Mayor of Melbourne.
• The Revd Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone, Aboriginal Elder and climate educator
• Prof David Karoly, internationally recognised expert on climate change
• Dr Catherine Brown OAM, CEO of the Lord Mayor’s Foundation
• Dr Jeff Sparrow, Walkley award-winning journalist and author

The event will also feature the premiere performance of newly commissioned work by percussionist Elissa Goodrich.
'Gaia Greeters'

We are keen to provide a warm welcome to the thousands of visitors who are likely to come into the Cathedral in the next couple of months to see the installation.

But we need your help! Would you be able to provide 2-3 hours a week between now and the end of June? If so, please click here to have a read of the 'Gaia Greeters' Volunteer Position Description and get in touch with Andrew Victorsen. The Cathedral can assist you in obtaining the necessary safe ministry clearances.

An information session will be held on Tuesday 19th April at 2.00pm in the Barbara Darling Room. All are welcome to attend.

We do hope that you can help us welcome people who might never have been inside a church before so that they might feel the love of Christ as they enter.
