Each year… the diocese celebrates the teachers of the diocesan elementary and secondary schools with a luncheon at which one teacher from each school receives the Christ the Teacher Award… Following a long line of very worthy teachers from Holy Cross School, third grade traditional track teacher Cara Barnes received the award for her years of dedicated service to our students and school community. Cara exemplifies what is best in the faculty, staff and administration of Holy Cross School, and was a most worthy and appropriate recipient, one who truly represents and brings Christ the teacher to her students.
In his brief reflection, Bishop Rhoades reminded us that the ultimate purpose of Catholic schools is to help our students reach eternal life in heaven. Our schools want children to live good, happy lives, and to know how to do so through Jesus. Teachers are entrusted with the noble art of forming children in faith, in truth, in goodness, and in beauty. They are formed in these virtues through their teachers, who are instruments of our students’ authentic growth in the midst of the challenges facing our society today. Thank you, Cara, and all our dedicated teachers and staff who work so diligently and faithfully to bring the beauty of the teachings of Jesus Christ to our school children.
