Church of the Palms, United Church of Christ
A member received a text message on their phone this morning from someone pretending to be Pastor Paul, asking for a favor.

If you receive one of these messages via text or email, please disregard it and report it to your service provider.

Pastor Paul and Pastor Jim will NEVER ask you for help in this way.

Protect yourself from scams like this. If you receive an email or a text from anyone asking for money, immediately become suspicious.

DOs and DON’Ts:
  • DO double-check your text messages and emails carefully.
  • DON’T ever respond to a message asking you for money.
  • DO verify in person or by phone any request involving money or personal information.
  • DON’T reply.
  • DON’T click on any links within the message.
  • DO report the message as spam to your service provider after forwarding it to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov - be sure to cc the church being impersonated.

These scams attack the trust and faith you place in certain respected people. Be safe out there in cyberspace.
