Dear CIS Friend,

Fall is officially here and this time of year is always a chance for renewed focus, continued growth and change! Learn more about our new space, an exciting visitor and what else our amazing team and students have been up to in this issue!

With gratitude,

VISIT FROM REY SALDAÑA
We were thrilled to welcome, Rey Saldaña, National President and CEO of Communities In Schools to Chesterfield County this month! Saldaña is a CIS alumnus, whose journey from former CIS student to national leader of Communities In Schools, sends an inspiring message to students about the power they have to navigate barriers and achieve success. During his visit, Rey spent time at Chalkley Elementary and Meadowbrook High School, engaging with our site coordinators and learning more about the relationships, support and resources we provide to our students. Rey, also spent time touring our community and connecting with our partners, CCPS leadership, and our CIS Board and Staff. We greatly appreciate Rey's time and we look forward to our continued partnership and many future visits!
IT'S OFFICIAL! WE'RE OPEN

Our new office is officially open for visitors and volunteers! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our open house and made it such a great success. We were thrilled to show off our new space, including plenty of storage for in-kind donations, team training and room to grow!

Our new office is located at 1808 Coyote Dr., Suite 100, Chester, VA 23836.
We will have the same mailing address (P.O. Box 10 Chesterfield, VA 23832). As well, our phone number remains the same (804) 717.9305.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

The CIS team is delighted to introduce our new Development and Outreach Coordinator Kendall Clay! Kendall is a Richmond native and graduated from James River High School here in Chesterfield County! She has a Masters in Organizational Psychology and has been working for the last few years in Human Resources. Please join us in welcoming her to the team!

"I am super excited to join an organization that provides students with the resources and support to achieve success inside and outside the classroom!"
PICKLEBALL FOR A PURPOSE

Complete with its quirky name, Pickleball has become the next new thing! So naturally, we had to get in on the action. On Sunday, September 25th, participants picked up paddles for a purpose at the All In For Kids Pickleball Tournament. Over a hundred players joined us for a full day of competition and fun. Thank you to all our amazing sponsors and our Board Chair, Eileen Morrissett, for making this event possible!

CIS-C RESOURCE CORNER
The Takeaway Podcast: School Lunch

School meals are critical to students' well-being and readiness to learn! We see the link between students' nutrition, their academic achievement and behavior in school. NPR continues their back-to-school series, School Principles, in the lunchroom. In this episode, The Takeaway podcast explores why we should view school lunch and nutrition as a key part of public education, the history of school lunch and how policy should change.
