I had the privilege of visiting several National Parks this spring, one of which was Yellowstone National Park. One of the highlights of any trip to Yellowstone National Park is the wildlife. My trip in May of 2022 was no disappointment in the wildlife department! These Bison, aka "Fluffy Cows", were engaged in a little sparring. Nothing serious, just a few quick headbutts and then they went their separate ways. The photo opportunity was brief but dramatic. I chose black and white to help the dark bison stand out from the lighter grass. In this instance the eye of the left bison makes the image work. Without that spot of white in the image I think the whole image would be much too flat and impersonal.

I was very excited when I saw the group of Bison I was watching begin to cross the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park. There were some young ones with them and I wondered if the crossing would be as dramatic as I imagined it would be. It was. The smaller calves splashed and made quite the scene crossing. Then once on the other side they would begin to kick up their heels flinging water everywhere!

On a recent trip to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, I was pleased to find a number of Mute Swans still happily hanging out in one of the ponds. The lighting was superb as the early morning glow lit up the swans creating a lovely contrast between the cool blue water and the golden light on their feathers. This particular beauty seemed to pose briefly allowing me to capture a quick portrait shot before it swam behind the grasses with the others.
