Dear Neighbor, At the beginning of my term as Mayor, I have created the Control Tower-a comprehensive document of 25 projects to move East Hartford forward. In a little less than a year, we have made significant strides in completing a lot of the projects on the list. I would like to provide you with a brief update on some of those projects: Church Corners Inn - At the September 20th Town Council meeting, the Council approved the purchase of 860 Main Street. This initiative will bring stability to Main Street. We continue to pursue gaining control of Silver Lane Plaza to revitalize the neighborhood The Rentschler Field Logistics Center project is fully approved and construction will begin closer to the end of the year Related to the Logistics Center, the Town and the developer have agreed on a $4 million impact payment to be received by the town. Three million will go toward building a sports complex for local children. Another one million will go toward closing the East Coast Greenway gap. SiFi is making their way into your neighborhood, bringing super-speed Internet to every home and business in East Hartford. The Concourse Park project at the former Showcase Cinemas site is fully approved and construction will begin in 2023.
There is still a lot of work to be done, but we have a vision and a clear path forward. Stay tuned for updates! -Mayor Michael P. Walsh |

| October is Breast Cancer Awareness MonthBreast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity for thrivers and loved ones to celebrate friendship and family. It’s a month for promoting breast cancer awareness and the importance of research, early detection, and prevention. But for far too many people, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also a painful reminder of the more than 42,000 U.S. women and men we will lose—almost entirely to metastatic disease—each year.
Many breast cancer symptoms are invisible and not noticeable without a professional screening, but some symptoms can be caught early just by being proactive about your breast health. Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month. While mammograms can help you to detect cancer before you can feel a lump, breast self-exams help you to be familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can alert your healthcare professional if there are any changes. For more information about breast cancer and early detection, contact the East Hartford Health Department at 860-291-7324. |

Way back in 1946, two East Hartford cops named Ray Hutt and Augie Bria took a chance and opened Augie & Ray's Drive-in restaurant— a hot dog stand and dairy bar. What did two cops know about the restaurant business? Not a lot at the time. But, they knew enough about this working class neighborhood outside the gates of Pratt & Whitney and what they needed – good grub, a hot cup of joe and a place to hang their hat. The rest, as they say, is history. For over 70 years the Hutt family has nurtured Augie and Ray's dream. Sons Butch and Ernie Hutt built "The Stand" into what it is today - an institution, famous for it's footlong dogs and their secret recipe chili, aka "The Sauce." Oh, and don't bother asking for the recipe. Today, the torch has been passed as Ray's great-grandsons, Mike and Chris take the helm. They have some ideas of their own but remain committed to serving up the same, great food that has served this community so well for over 70 years. This is where you find your favorite hotdogs and hamburgers, topped with some great milkshakes! MENU |

| Message from the Fire Chief Did you know that the East Hartford Fire Department repairs our own fire apparatus? One of the challenges of operating a fleet of large vehicles such as fire apparatus, is the wear and tear that occurs during the course of operations. The EHFD employs two specially trained mechanics that handle all of the repairs to our vehicles. The Apparatus Repair Division (also known as the Machine Shop) is co-located with Station 5 on Brewer Street. The modern facility allows our fire apparatus to be repaired locally. This is both fiscally responsible and more efficient than sending them to a repair garage. On average, vehicle repairs are made within 24 hours, returning them to service much faster than a private vendor. Also, our mechanics provide all of the preventative maintenance, which allows us to keep the vehicles in service longer than otherwise would be possible. As the cost of repairs and materials continue to rise, the EHFD can keep costs lower by providing these vital repairs. It also keeps the community safer. Our mechanics are on call 24 hours a day and have a mobile repair vehicle capable of providing simple repairs in the stations to prevent apparatus from traveling to Brewer Street. As always, residents are encouraged to reach out to the fire department with any questions they may have. -Chief Kevin Munson |
