Our faith can only grow if we water the seeds in our hearts. How do we grow our faith? In the Growth Journey class, we have begun to learn about Spiritual Disciplines. It is no coincidence that discipline includes the word disciple. A discipline is “a practice that can lead to life transformation by design.” Being a disciple is about following Christ’s example and transforming our lives so that we may reflect God’s teachings and love to the world around us.
Spiritual discipline may sound complicated, much like studying in school. But as anyone trying to learn, it is ok to start small. I encourage everyone to read Scripture daily, even if it is only one verse. Reflect and pray on it, and pray that God may teach you to live a transformed life. After all, it only takes a spark to get a fire going, as the hymn says. Christ himself said in Luke 17:5-6:
5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.
As we go about our days, remember that no matter how small your faith is, it can blossom into a large tree that produces much fruit, we only have to “water it” daily through the Bible and prayer.
