Funding Information

New data on funding in the not-for-profit performing arts sector

Grants, subsidies, donations, corporate sponsorships and fundraising take centre stage in the not-for-profit performing arts industries in Canada.

Statistics Canada has released an analysis of the evolution of funding for nonprofit performing arts over time, up to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The data shows that federal funding increased between 2014 and 2020, while funding from other levels of government decreased. Non-government sources of revenue were increasing prior to the pandemic, but fell in 2020.
