Bucket of Change
Your donation in October will go to
Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity (GAHH)
Vision:  No one in Greater Albuquerque area will live in sub-standard housing.  Mission:  Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity builds community – one home, one family at a time – by making it possible for low-income families to own decent, affordable homes.
GAHH builds community by giving low-income families an opportunity to purchase a home so they can stand on their own, find stability and build a safe and secure foundation for their family’s future.  Having a decent place to live removes barriers to success that might have been a part of a family’s life for generations. Website: https://habitatabq.org/
You may place your offerings for the BUCKET OF CHANGE in the bucket at church (our "noisy offering"), send gifts directly to St. Luke via mail or contribute via our online giving resources on our church website http://stlukeabq.org/.
We collected $328.06 for Albuquerque Health Care for Homeless (Bucket of Change recipient for September). Thank you for your gift.
Spiritual Direction with Jerry Aaker
Are you interested in exploring joining a small group for Spiritual Direction at St Luke?  Never heard of Group Spiritual Direction?  Most Protestants haven’t. But might this be something St Luke could offer members for Spiritual growth?  Might this be something that could enrich your spiritual life?

Group spiritual direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis (usually once a month) to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God in their life.  They are seeking support for their responsiveness to God and they agree to support others in that same responsiveness.  Groups of three to five people meet together to provide spiritual direction for each other, with the help or a facilitator, recognizing that the real Spiritual Director is the Holy Spirit.

If you are interested in exploring if this might be right for you, talk to one of the pastors or Jerry Aaker at (406) 221-6639 or at jaaker2@yahoo.com.  More information from Jerry Aaker and Group Spiritual Direction can be retrieved at the St. Luke website, StLukeABQ.org [on top of web page, click MEDIA, then choose DOWNLOADS] or by clicking HERE.
We are so excited to soon meet our new Coordinator of Music Ministries, Danielle Cordova!
The Staff Support Committee is collecting donations to purchase some items for a welcome basket for Danielle and her husband. We'd like to have the basket ready when they arrive here from Arizona the week of October 10. If you'd like to donate, please either put your contribution in an envelope marked "new music coordinator" and place it in the donation basket during a service next weekend, or just drop your contribution directly to the office. We will collect donations until Monday, October 3rd.
Gratefully,
The Staff Support Committee: Jean Hollowwa, Vanessa Anderson and David Follstaedt
*** Volunteer Sound Operators ***
Thanks to our tech volunteers, we have a sound system that effectively amplifies the voices of our pastors and musicians. But in order to be able to hear the reading and the preaching of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus, the prayers and music, we need Sound Operators!  With the video system, we can worship together with those who cannot be here at St. Luke via Live-Streaming; whether they be in Albuquerque or out of state.
The signup sheet for Sound Operators for all services for the months of October 2022 and November 2022 are now posted on the kiosk in the narthex. Thank you to those who serve in the Sound Ministry.  For new volunteers, we have training – please sign up on the goldenrod bulletin insert.
The Storehouse New Mexico
St. Luke church's year-round outreach to our neighbors in need of food
Website: StorehouseNM.org
Thank you for your gifts of food (a barrel full) and cases of water for our Albuquerque neighbors in need.  Last week, with much gratitude and on behalf of The Storehouse, their driver Sam Trujillo picked up our gifts and left an empty barrel for us to fill with food as the need in the community is year-round (most vulnerable are the children and seniors).
Most needed: any non-perishable foods, especially canned vegetables, canned protein (like tuna, Spam, corned beef, sausages), and Ramen noodles. Thank you.
Information: Debbie Werner at debrawerner89@gmail.com.
St. Luke Church-wide Ministry to Our Children and the Community

Nursery Care Volunteers*
We would like to have two people in the Nursery at all times - a volunteer and our Nursery staff.
If you are available to help once a month in the Nursery during the Saturday 5 pm or the Sunday 8:15 am or 10:30 am worship service, please sign up on the goldenrod bulletin insert or contact the church office at (505) 299-2621 or at stluke@thuntek.net.
*There will be a background check and a short training online; no fee.
Coffee Fellowship Ministry
From Sally Trigg, Coordinator
St. Luke loves to fellowship around coffee/snacks after Sunday services, and we need your help!

The church supplies the coffee, hot water, and donut holes every Sunday. If you would be willing to supply a fruit tray or a vegetable tray once every two months, please email Sally Trigg at sallydtrigg@gmail.com, sign up on the goldenrod sheet, or call the church office at 505 299-2621.

The trays need to be delivered by 9 am on Sunday or stored in the church lounge refrigerator the night before. Sally Trigg will be in touch to coordinate dates.
Thank you.
St. Luke Prays
Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes and pray at all times. - Romans 12:12
We pray that after Hurricane Ian passes, restoration will occur. We pray that rescues will be successful. We pray not only for the restoration of physical property but the restoration of hearts. Draw those near to you that are fearful – restore in them a trusting heart that leans on you. We pray you would give each community the strength to help each other rebuild and to come together in love and support for one another. Remind us all that you are our rock, fortress, and deliverer (Psalm 18:2). We lift every single person in the path of this storm up to you. May you protect them and guide them to safety with your wisdom.  Be with those who mourn.  For those of us who are safe from the storm, ignite in us a passion for those who are affected. Lead us to show our support and help in any way that we can.  Amen. (From:  https://www.crosswalk.com)

For Our Community, Country and the World
We pray for Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity, our Bucket of Change recipient for October 2022.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Because our Lord Jesus commanded us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us, we ask you, Lord to always remind us that you created them in your image, that Christ died for them, that they are beloved of God just like us, so that we might with sincerity pray, Lord have mercy on them.

Since we have such great hope in your promises, O God, we lift these and all of our prayers to you in confidence and faith; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
