CIM holds first meeting of Executive Committee 2022-2025

Washington. September 27, 2022, The Delegates of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM/OAS) - Ministers for Women and high government authorities on gender issues, from nine countries of the region - gathered to celebrate the first session of the Executive Committee of the CIM 2022-2025.

The meeting was led by the President of the CIM, Minister María Inés Castillo, and was attended by the Principal and Alternate Delegates of the CIM, members of the Executive Committee: Minister Antonia Orellana of Chile; Minister María Lilian López of El Salvador; Minister Virginia Albert-Poyotte of Saint Lucia, Jamie Saunders, Executive Director, Gender Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, Stéfane Silva, Coordinator of International Affairs of Brazil, Natalie St. Lawrence, Director General, Policy and Foreign Affairs for Women and Gender Equality of Canada, Doris Garcia Paredes, Minister of the Secretariat for Women's Affairs of Honduras and Mónica Bottero, Director of the National Institute for Women of Uruguay.

Within the framework of a new Strategic Plan, a path of implementation guidelines was presented by the President of the CIM, Minister Castillo, and the Executive Secretary, Alejandra Mora Mora. This path seeks to generate more tools, policies, legal instruments and actions, as well as to increase the levels awareness and capacity around the need for more rights and more opportunities for women. To achieve this, emphasis was placed on the new "Mainstreaming+ Strategy for Equality and Transformation," which institutionalizes the gender perspective throughout the States, with new focuses on alliances and the urgency of women's leadership in decision-making positions.

Furthermore, a new roadmap was introduced to promote the participation of the Caribbean States with a proposal that is tailored to their needs and priorities; and the Committee reflected on the new areas of work of the CIM that respond to the broader global agenda, such as climate change, sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental health, peace and security.
"We are all CIM," is the motto that will bring us together in the celebration of the 95th anniversary of the CIM, where feminist intergenerational dialogue predominates and guides dialogue with the National Machineries for the Advancement of Women, with other international organizations, governments, academia and civil society.

The invitation to women is to take ownership of multilateralism, so that the CIM increasingly responds to their needs and interests, and that it continues to be a driver of change for the advancement of all women in the region.
