GRACE and GLORY

“Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:2

This is our school wide verse and chapel theme this year. We invite you to join us at any time! For a list of grade level chapel times, visit https://fpds.org/christian-life/chapel/.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Sennette Dozer, Antonina Karam, James Lusk, and Sara Beth Walker (4th grade students) and Carol Brister (Innovate Instructor) participated in the C-Spire Jr. Coding Challenge at the Mississippi Children's Museum this month. Along with a C-Spire mentor, the students developed a program for the Cue robot that consisted of multiple commands and requirements.

"My favorite part was just being chosen," said Sara Beth. "They gave us a list, and we had to make the bot do certain things. We programmed it on an iPad, and the bot moved around a big mat with squares. We had to program the turns and the start and finish."

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Torsheta Jackson joined the FPDS staff four years ago, developing a brand new class from the ground up. Elevate, a special subject class for third through sixth graders, helps students develop and strengthen their academic and organizational skills in preparation for the transition into junior high school. The elementary and middle school years are important to a student’s academic career, and Mrs. Jackson’s class provides a foundation for the development of good student habits.

“God wants us to maximize our potential, and I want His will for my students,” Mrs. Jackson says.  “I believe that in Elevate, students learn important skills to help them become who God intends for them to be.  The character traits and professional attributes taught in the Bible are called ‘soft skills’ by the world. Elevate is important and unique because it covers those critical soft skills that are not explicitly taught in the classroom. I enjoy seeing students become more self-aware and teaching them to apply that self-awareness to their education, life, and Christian walk.”

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Molly Baldwin, FPDS class of 2011, is a senior at Jackson Academy. She is a member of the Encore show choir and will play a part in the school’s fall musical West Side Story, scheduled for October 22. Molly is a student ambassador, Honor Council chairman, and student body historian. She serves as a leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and JA chapel. “FPDS prepared me for junior high and high school by giving me a strong foundation in my faith to rely on and grow in,” Molly says.
