Here's something most all of us can celebrate ~
today is National Coffee Day!
Weatherwise, today is a great day to get out and support your local
coffee shop (we're particularly proud of Turnbull Provisions
here in Kingston Springs), then come on in and support this LYS!

As weeks go, it has been been pretty uneventful from a 'what's new in the shop' perspective ~ but that's not such a bad thing at all!. We have plenty of inventory in the shop ~ you might say we're 'working from our stash'!

Our Forbidden Fiber Co. Halloween trunk show is winding down ... it will be in the shop through Saturday, and then like magic it will be gone! As you know, we always carry a good bit of Forbidden Fiber yarn in the shop ~ this is a special opportunity to fill in your stash with some lovely fall colorways that we don't normally have in stock. Plus each time you shop it, you'll be entered in our door prize drawing (you know you won't win if you don't play, right?!
We all love, love our bags ... but these are my go-to bags (yes, I have a few)! Beautiful, durable fabrics (they are made from upholstery fabrics, so they are sturdy). No, they aren't cheap, but hey ~ you get what you pay for! If you've ever had your bag's bottom wall fall apart in the middle of a busy airport with all your project + notions spilling behind you on a 'people walk' ... you'll thank me.
Let's talk about the comfort of simple patterns. Sometimes they seem like such a slog of boring ~ same old, same old. Perhaps they are, but they turn out to be some of your favorite things.

They let your mind relax & wander, while your fingers do the work ... they are just restful projects. I try to keep one on my needles always ... TV knitting (especially sports!), waiting room knitting, airport/plane knitting, hospital knitting. Pretty much mindless projects. Here are a few of my favorites:

CMYK by Beth Weaver (this is one of my personal favorites, and she's now been to 6 countries!) pretty much the shop's "traveling wrap" ... if you'd like to borrow, just ask. Damage, replacement, dry cleaning is on you! (There is also a cowl/snood pattern for the faint of heart!)
Easy Folded Poncho by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas
We've all made one (or three), it is a lovely, restful knit. The last one I made I did a fade, flipped it so the purl side was the right side, then a separate Honey Cowl (keep reading) with my last color. It was gorgeous ... and then it was sold. I really need to make another.
Honey Cowl by Antonia Shankland ... so many slip stitches, such a quick, adaptable to any weight pattern! I avoided this pattern like the plague for several years, because the pics looked like seed stitch, but it isn't. (I love seed/moss stitch, just hate it en masse).
27 Color Snood by Bobbi IntVeld ... this is a gorgeous, snuggly & simple knit. This one is a great opportunity to scrap dive ~ you'll just need your main color (or not)! (I think this would be interesting to use a variegated as your main color, then pop in solids for the stripes.)
Sockhead Slouch Hat by Kelly McClure ... Lordie, I love this hat ... though it does tend to run a bit big. She has reformatted the pattern over the years for multiple sizes, I usually go with the 'teen' recommendation. I have a small head ... just measure. She also offers a cowl pattern. This hat? I've probably made a dozen.
Now is the time ~ ready for your next WestKnitsMKAL? Today I shopped the shop for all available necessaries for this once-a-year event, and I'm pretty sure I'm good to go! All I need to do is attach those leather handles to that Kraft Caddy and wait on the first clue. Which drops next Thursday, October 6. (And just BTW yes, we have all this things in stock.)

We are hosting a dutch treat Westknits cast-on party next Thursday, October 6 at SkyKing Pizza from 5 until (well, they close at 9)! This will the first time in a looooong time we've hooked up there, please come out & join us. And I you forgot something ... the shop is just two doors down, and I have the keys!

This is one of our favorite knitting adventures each & every year. Didn't purchase your yarn from us? No worries ~ we're an inclusive bunch ... we just love making new fiber friends! So come on out & join us for knitting, pizza & beverage!
Well. Enough. What else is going on in Kingston Springs? Our annual Art in the Park fine art/craft festival is this Saturday, October 1, from 10-4. Live music, food trucks, local artisans ... this has grown into a lovely local event, and we hope you'll join us. Stop by the shop & show us your treasures, we'll be in from 10-2!

Yours in yarn,
Glenna
