Chatpal at the European Conference
on Mental Health, September 2022

The ChatPal team gave talks at the European Conference on Mental Health (https://ecmh.eu/) in Lisbon. The team also had an exhibition stand to hand out promotional material.

The session was titled “Digital mental health: creating a multilingual mental wellbeing chatbot (ChatPal) for citizens in Northern Periphery Regions” and included 4 presentations from project members:
  1. How do you design, develop and trial a chatbot to promote good mental health and wellbeing? (Courtney Potts)
  2. Experiences of mental health chatbot dialogue content design: challenges and recommendations (Heidi Nieminen and/or Anna-Kaisa)
  3. Young people’s views and experiences of AI as a tool to promote mental health (Frida Lindström and Catrine Kostenius)
  4. Strategic opportunities for digital mental health (David Babington and Maurice Mulvenna)

Online Toolkit Finalised . . .

The ChatPal Toolkit has been completed in PDF format. Clear and concise design delivers the key points in an easy to understand format. A great resource for the project and for others who want to design health-based chatbots..

Infographics & Video Bring ChatPal Trial Results into Focus

Infographics designed to bring ChatPal Trial results into an easy to understand format have recently been commissioned. The clean design helps deliver the message visually, while a short explainer video charts the ChatPal journey from inception to completion.

The short video will be of interest to App users and also those who may develop mental health chatbot-led Apps in the future.

Courtney Potts Rounds up

Courtney Potts Sums up . . .

“Now the project is coming to an end, I have been reflecting on the past 3 years. I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve and learn in the ChatPal project.

The partnership has been invaluable, as each partner has significantly contributed to all activities which has ensured the success of the project. We have carried out a range of activities, from gathering users needs, to developing and testing each iteration of the multilingual chatbot, and finally trialling ChatPal across NPA areas.

The final ChatPal papers have been submitted, detailing the main results from multi-regional trials and what features people used and liked in the chatbot. Keep an eye out for these papers in the near future! You can find all project outputs on our website

A huge thank you to all our Partners, Advisory Group members and project activity volunteers for making this such a great project to be part of!”

Focus Group Feedback on Trials

Focus groups took place with young people (aged 15+) in August, through the Bytes project in Northern Ireland. In these groups, young people tested the ChatPal app and gave feedback, along with their thoughts on digital health technologies. These results will be shared in coming months.
