How to RSVP for the Pre Erev Rosh Hashanah service potluck

It will be so good to get together to usher in the high holy days with a delightful potluck. For planning and set up purposes, we need to know how many are coming and what they are bringing for our meal.

To RSVP please use this link to email Shoshanah susanmori2@aol.com and provide the following information by Friday September 23rd:
  • Names of everyone in your group
  • What you are bringing – if it is gluten free, please label it as such for our teens who cannot eat gluten
Please note vax records are not required.
We look forward to seeing everyone there!

We’re in Shalom Magazine

The attached article appears in the latest version of Shalom Santa Barbara published by the Jewish Federation of Santa Barbara. It has a vast amount of information on everything Jewish in Santa Barbara County. Our piece, written eloquently by Neil Goodman, is a sincere representation of our small but mighty community. The theme for Shalom this year was Tikkun Olam. Shalom magazine will be available (and yes, it’s free) at all High Holiday Services and Shabbat services following.

Shalom,
Susie Pierson

One of the recipients of SYVJC’s Tikkun Olam donations is holding a fundraiser on October 1st called Cars and Cowboys. SYVJC members Jeff and Barbara Winter will have their prize car in the show.

This event benefits the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers almost 400 meals per day to those in need. To do this, funding is a constant concern. The sponsoring organization was previously known as the Buellton Senior Center, and now is known as the Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach.

For more information visit their website carsandcowboys.com.

SYVJC member Les Rose and his Valley Jazz Collective will present
the second in a series of 3 concerts at St. Mark’s on October 12th at 7 pm.

If you missed Les’ “Birthday Bash” concert on September 7th, you missed something very special. This second performance will focus on Masters of Bebop – a style of jazz that developed in the late 1940’s after the Big Band Era. The great architects of bebop – Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and Tadd Dameron will be explored along with original compositions by Les Rose and Woody Demarco.

Tickets are $10 for general admission (students are free) and will be sold at the door. For more information, please contact Les at 805-963-3441 or les@lesrosemusic.com.

Also….saxaphone player Les will be blowing the shofar at the High Holy Day services
