Dear Friends

It's hard to believe that summer has passed so quickly, yet here we are at the beginning of fall. As you know, we did some surveying and questioning over the past few months and as a result we've decided to make some minor changes to the Newsletter. I hope you like them.
Moving forward, our plan is to try to provide more video that you will find interesting and informative. Many people identified video as being more accessible for them.

Naturally, we will include new videos, but this is also a terrific opportunity to re-introduce you to some older material that may not have been widely distributed when it was first produced. (We recently surpassed three thousand subscribers on YouTube, so we have lots of new followers who may not have seen some of our older video.)

With that in mind, permit me to introduce "We Have No Time". This video was produced with the assistance of the Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation.

Sometimes it's urgent and extreme team building that makes the difference in a patient's care. What happens when an ER patient needs life-saving surgery 10 minutes ago? When is it the right thing to bypass paperwork and systems, and how can you accomplish it? These are real world problems that are faced by Neurosurgeons daily.

After you watch, please be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel.

It was truly an honor to speak on September 13th to the Resiliency Program Officers of NJ Law Enforcement.
This attentive and dedicated group is tasked with bolstering law-enforcement officers’ resiliency to mental-health issues with special training on how to better handle the stress and trauma that is common to their work. It's a "First in Nation" initiative from New Jersey.

Thank you for your invitation. It is our hope that some version of this talk will be available soon in my new, expanded video area.
There is a crisis in medicine right now. Burnout has been a looming problem for a long time, but the pandemic has exacerbated the dilemma for many medical professionals. The problem is everywhere..., and we need to do something about it.

90% of nurses are considering leaving their career throughout the United States and experts project something like a 20-30% deficit of nurses by 2030.

Before our August #NeuroRounds event moved to case review and medical teaching, I spoke briefly about some ideas to manage burnout in medicine. I truly believe this is the time for all of us to LEAN IN to clinical medicine. It's most definitely not the time to leave.

The topic is so important that we've decided to share a video on my website. I hope you will take the six and a half minutes to watch, listen, and reflect.

Our next #NeuroRounds happens October 4, 2022.
