It's spooky season, y'all!! This reading list is for fans of terrifying tales. Be sure to check out our monthly book display in the YA Area where we have selected the scariest, psychological thriller-est, horror-est, ghosty-est books we have in the YA collection. If my made-up words don't scare you, come on in for a real terror of a read.
Banned Books Weeks
Banned Books Week celebrates our freedom to read and to access stories and information. It also sheds light on attempts to curb both.

Below are resources to help you better understand what "banned books" means, what banning and limiting access to books and authors does to schools, communities, and the book writing world, and what you can do about it.

Book Riot keeps a running list of stories and resources about banned, challenged, and limited books. It is regularly updated.

Unite Against Book Bans is a large-scale effort by multiple partners to educate the public about the importance of access to authors, illustrators, and books.

PEN America is an organization that works hard year-round to bring diverse authors and illustrations and their stories to the front and center. They work with groups and communities to enact real change, combat legislation that wants to limit access, and more. They host online and in-person events, provide resources to become an advocate, and celebrate and defend the freedom of expression.
Join us for our first after hours teen party! Jump back into your childhood at Regression Session on Friday, October 14 from 7-9pm.

The library will be closed to the public ... but not to our childhood dreams and faves! Register by October 12 for a night of mini golf, games (parachute? BINGO? Candyland? you decide!), hundreds of Magna-tiles to play with, arts and crafts, loads of cartoons and snacks, a relaxation station, and more!
Join our Society for the Appreciation of Manga and Anime on Monday, September 26 4:30-6pm – new fans, experienced fans, and every teen in between are invited!  Make and eat candy sushi. Watch an episode or two of anime. Draw, chat, hang out, and get to know other fans of anime and manga. Registration is recommended but not required.
