BE A RAINBOW IN SOMEONE'S CLOUD!
First and second grade students created collage rainbows to start out the school year. They used old projects, scraps, spangles, stickers, foam shapes, and pom-poms to create a unique design in rainbow form. Students were inspired by the quote “Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud” from the poet, Maya Angelou.
PIANO DONATION
The above baby grand piano was graciously donated to our Elementary and Performing Arts Center by Kathy Dubbs, Aunt of Pat Dubbs, the former Superintendent of Wayne Local Schools. We are very grateful for this beautiful piano; it will be a great addition to our district!

Today we became aware of false active shooter reports at different area high schools that were deemed a hoax by police. Inaccurate information, hoaxes, and a rash of threats were happening across the nation.
The safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. Threats or emergencies will be addressed immediately and parents will be contacted.

FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2022/2023
For the past two years, the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) has offered waivers to Child Nutrition (CN) Programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch at no charge. These waivers expired on June 30, 2022. This means that this school year, the CN programs across the nation will return to normal, pre-pandemic operations.

FUN RUN SUPER STARS
This week’s Spartan Fun Run Super Stars are shown above. These elementary students have raised the most money this week for the Fun Run Fundraiser! Thank you!!

Last Friday night, the Spartans rumbled with the Eaton Eagles on the road. The Spartans came out firing in the first half with touchdowns from Joe Stone, Trent Davis, and Alex Amburgy. The defense was also nothing to gawk at only allowing one touchdown bringing the score to 21-7 by halftime. The second half the Spartans played extremely hard however, they didn’t fare too well letting up three touchdowns and a field goal. The game was extremely close with a final score of 21-31 resulting in Eaton winning the ball game.
GIRLS SOCCER
WHS Girls Soccer Team beat Bellbrook and Oakwood this week!
The Lady Spartans won two more hard-fought games this week to bring their season record to 10-0. WHS travelled to Bellbrook on Tuesday and beat a strong Bellbrook team 2-1. Sophomore Baylee Williams scored the first goal when she finished sophomore Lynsie Kuhns's throw-in after junior Caroline Stupp redirected the ball to her. Junior Samantha Erbach scored the winning goal for the Lady Spartans when she beat the Bellbrook keeper with a penalty kick.
The team followed up with another nice win over Oakwood at home with goals by junior Kyla Harvey, junior Brooke Woody, Williams (2), and Erbach (1). Erbach (2), Woody, senior Allie Freese, and senior Alyza Camp all assisted these goals. The 5-0 win was senior goalkeeper Gracyn Armstrong's 6th shut-out for the season. She's had exceptional support from her team, including defenders Laine Kuhns, Emme Greely, Lynsie Kuhns, Kendal Erbach, Alyza Camp, Kayann Whitt, and Katie Dick.
The Lady Spartans travel to Cincinnati Country Day on Monday in a rematch of last year's Regional Semifinal game. JV starts at 4:45 pm, and Varsity kicks off at 6:15 pm.
Soccer Double-Header Pink-Out on October 4!
Waynesville's Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer programs are hosting a Pink-Out during our double-header against Greenview on October 4. We're inviting you to wear pink and come help us recognize those who are currently fighting any type of cancer or have battled any type of cancer. Varsity Girls kick off at 5:30 pm. Varsity boys kick off at 7:30 pm.
On Tuesday, the boys’ soccer team faced the Bellbrook Golden Eagles at home. The Spartans tried their best to get the upper hand on the Golden Eagles with their trademark aggressive style of play. In the end however, the might of Bellbrook was ultimately too much for the Spartans to handle giving up three goals as opposed to their two. The final score was 2-3 resulting in a Spartans loss.
VOLLEYBALL
Last Thursday the Spartans volleyball team decimated the Franklin Wildcats at home. The Spartans Were extremely dominant early on barely giving a chance for Franklin to score with insane performances by the entirety of the Spartans roster utilizing their full ability to score and more or less keep the Wildcats out of the game. Finishing the game in three sets, completely dominating their competition. Waynesville picked up the win with final scores of 25-18, 25-5, 25-9.
Monday the Spartans volleyball team zapped the Northmont Thunderbolts off the court at home. The Spartans imposed their will upon the T-bolts dominating the majority of all three sets. Building from a fantastic first set the Spartans’ second set was fairly close but gave barely any room for their opposition to score or make a sizable impact in the remaining set. All of this brilliant play resulted in a three set victory for the Spartans with final scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-17.
Tuesday Evening the Spartans tried to sting the Monroe Hornets on the road. The Spartans initially losing the first set tied the game up with a close win in the second set. However the Hornet’s sheer tenacity proved to be too much for the Spartans to handle falling in the subsequent two sets. The final scores were 25-20, 16-25, 25-9, 25-14 respectively.
Thursday evening the Spartan Volleyball team looked to chop the Oakwood Lumberjacks at home. The Spartans lost a tough first set but remained perseverant and tried especially hard on the next two. This would unfortunately not be enough falling in all three to the Lumberjacks. The final scores were 25-18, 29-27, 25-22.
CROSS COUNTRY
Last weekend, the Cross Country teams participated in a race at Cedarville’s Friendship Invitational. The girls team competed in the Division 1 race and Won! Congratulations to all of our runners and good luck this weekend at the Neal Charske Firebird Invitational in Kettering.
GIRLS TENNIS
On Tuesday, the Girl’s tennis team faced off against the Cedarville Indians. Although the Spartans had lost the match. The match was way closer than the score would suggest. Every match featured extended points, games and sets. One singles and one doubles match went three sets each. Despite the loss the Lady Spartans played hard and gave it their all. The final score was 4-1 despite this however Waynesville sits firmly at third place in the league.
Both the boys and girls golf team competed in the league meet this week at Beechwood Golf Course.

Thinking about college? Then it is time to learn about FAFSA!
FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. WHS will be holding an Informational Meeting on October 6, 2022 (Thursday) at 5:30 PM. A representative will lead this meeting from Wright State University Financial Aid & Admissions team. They will share valuable information to help you understand the why and how for FAFSA. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the primary form that the federal government, states and colleges use to award grants, scholarships, work study and student loans. Even if you think you do not qualify for financial aid it is still important to complete the process because some financial aid programs require a FAFSA even though they award aid without regard to family income and it may automatically qualify a student for low-interest federal student loans. Lastly, filing a FAFSA can actually help a student gain admission to a college because it allows the admission officers to know the student most definitely wants to attend the college. FAFSA window opens on Oct. 1. And it is important to file your FAFSA as close to Oct. 1 as possible to improve your chances of qualifying for the most grant, scholarship and work-study aid.

This school year, the Jr./Sr. High is trying to make sure that our wonderful students are recognized for their Spartan pride, respect, responsibility, and kindness. In doing so, teachers will recognize students through “Spartan Star Cards.” When students earn a card, they will be in the running to win various incentives. We need the help from our Spartan community in getting incentives for our students. If you own a local business and can provide our school with “free item” coupons or if you are part of our Spartan family and are able to donate any $5 gift cards, candy, or snacks for our students, we would greatly appreciate it. Larger donations for our quarterly rewards would also be something that would be a huge help to us. Any donations can be dropped off in the Main Office. Thank you for all of the support that you provide for our students.

On October 7, 2022, elementary school students will be participating in a Fun Run to support our school. All of the money raised will be used by the Waynesville Elementary PTO and Waynesville Elementary School to support teachers, staff, and students throughout the year.
