Secrest Artists Series: Third Coast Percussion tonight, Sept. 22

The Grammy-winning percussion quartet from Chicago presents a dynamic evening of works by Danny Elfman, Philip Glass and others, demonstrating their commitment to the extraordinary depth and breadth of musical possibilities in the world of percussion. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Sept. 22) in Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center.

Awake All Night, Sept. 23

Join Student Union on Friday, Sept. 23 for a night in the wild wild west. Invite your friends for food, games, a movie, and activities in Benson from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Invitation to participate in the Strategic Framework process, Sept. 26 and Oct. 5

As Wake Forest enters its Strategic Framework process, an essential component is engaging students, faculty, and staff. These listening sessions help guide the future of campus — asking who we are and who we want to be. Student listening sessions will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Zoom and on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 5:30-6:45 p.m. in the Heritage Room in Reynolda Hall. Your voice is a crucial part of this process. If you plan to join, please register.

Dean of the College search forum, Sept. 28

The Dean of the College search committee is hosting a forum for students to provide updates on the search and to hear from the campus community. This forum, specifically for students, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the ZSR Auditorium. Additionally, you are always welcome to share thoughts with members of the search committee at wfucollegedean@wfu.edu.

Respiratory illness resources

We are seeing a higher volume of non-COVID respiratory illness on campus right now. This is having an impact on the amount of same-day appointments that Student Health Service is able to see. The typical symptoms are nasal congestion and drainage, sneezing, sore throat, cough, low-grade fever (< 100 F), headache, and fatigue.

Because these illnesses are caused by viruses, antibiotics are not helpful for treatment. Symptoms typically will go away on their own after 7-10 days, and over-the-counter medications are helpful in managing symptoms.

Students who experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, wheezing, high fevers that fail to respond to fever meds (>102), or severe headaches should contact Student Health Service or one of the off-campus providers listed here for immediate evaluation.

Free flu shot clinics

As a reminder, Wake Forest is offering free student flu shot clinics in the Sutton Center on Sept. 23, 27, 29, and Oct. 5 and 11. Sign up here.

Football vs. Clemson – Wear Black!

We have a home football game this weekend against Clemson; kickoff is at noon on Saturday. Wear Black!

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It):

  • Important academic dates for undergraduates: the last day to drop a full-term course for undergraduate students is Monday, Sept. 26 that is also the last day for undergraduates to change from letter grade to pass/fail in a full-term course. The last day to change from pass/fail to a letter grade in an approved first part-of-term class is Wednesday, Sept. 28.
  • This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing: Be sure to catch this University Theatre production before it closes on Sunday. Student tickets are $7 each; showtimes here.
