We understand the need for continued learning to help keep pace with the rapidly changing needs of higher education. As a result, we are planning several PD opportunities for the 2022-2023 academic year. Be on the lookout for our full 2022-2023 PD calendar in upcoming newsletters.

In the meantime, check out some other PD opportunities from our partners and vendors.

LinkedIn Learning

BHCC is partnered with LinkedIn Learning in order to provide BHCC faculty, staff, and students with an expert-led online learning experience that’s personalized and convenient.  LinkedIn Learning is an award-winning industry leader in online training, with a digital library of over 6,000 courses covering a wide range of technical, business, software and creative topics.

Why Use LinkedIn Learning?

LinkedIn Learning lets you learn at your own pace. You can select courses relevant to your current role or program of study in areas like Business, Technology and Marketing. You can also pursue other passions. With courses on financial literacy, social media, even drawing and music theory, you’ll be able to grow and develop in the areas you care about both at school and work as well as outside of work.

How to Access LinkedIn Learning?

To activate your account using your BHCC email using OneLogin, visit the BHCC LinkedIn page. Once you activate your account, you can customize your learning dashboard to your areas of interest and save courses in your account.

OER

AIDE welcomes you to participate in an OER Book Review. Choose from over 1000 Open Textbooks from a wide range of fields on https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks . Once you decide on a book, please send your request to Ceit De Vitto with the name of the book and why you would like to review it. Once you complete the review process you will receive a $200.00 stipend.

Using OER materials in your courses?

It’s not too late to make sure your course is properly identified as OER in SelfService’s course type for the upcoming Summer and Fall 2022. Please complete this intake form if you answered yes or are unsure of the above title question. Ceit DeVitto will follow up with you and review your course to ensure it meets the BHCC OER standards. Please reach out to Ceit DeVitto with questions.

Please be sure to check your Junk folder for Moodle notifications and be sure to mark the sender as SAFE/Not Junk.

Fall Semester 2022 Moodle Course Shells

  1. Most Fall Semester Moodle course shells have been made available to edit. Faculty can access & edit their courses from the Moodle Dashboard once they become available. If you do not see your Fall courses on the Moodle Dashboard, you may have to switch your view to future courses. Be sure to also check the official start date of the course in the Self-Service "Course Description." Know that Most Moodle courses appear for Faculty about 42 days before the official start date of that class.

  2. Most students automatically gain access to their Moodle courses on the first official day of class. However, faculty can choose to make their Moodle courses visible to students before the first day. Learn how to “Show your course site” early.

Import Moodle Content From Previous Semesters

Please check out our resources on How to Import Moodle Course Content.

Visit the Moodle Course Management page of the AIDE Resources ePortfolio for information about merging courses, adding ACE mentors, and much more! Contact us at aide@bhcc.edu if you have any questions.

Extend Moodle access past it’s official end date

If you need a Moodle course site to remain available because you have students completing an IP or for any other reason, you can send the AIDE team an email and request extended access for your student(s). Learn how to Request Extended Access to a Moodle Course For Students With an IP.

Moodle Service Status

If you ever experience degraded performance or your Moodle site  becomes non-operational, we of course encourage you to reach out to us at aide@bhcc.edu. If you would like to be proactive and get notified when there is an outage, you can follow the Moodle US System Status Updates twitter page.

Additionally, if you were already signed up to receive updates from Moonami, know that the service status page has changed locations and is now Moodle US System Status Updates.

We welcome everyone to follow this page to stay up to date on Moodle service status updates.

WebEx

What’s New With WebEx?

As referenced in the campus-wide email from the helpdesk, the WebEx Meetings and WebEx Teams Apps merged into one application (WebEx). While the experience of joining meetings has not changed much, know that using the newly integrated WebEx App is the same as using WebEx Teams. View Changes to The WebEx Integrated App

Getting Started with WebEx

WebEx is a synchronous meeting tool, like Zoom, that allows faculty to host virtual classes, meetings, and informational sessions. You can share your screen to present files, videos, or other media. You can record, save, and share the meeting with others. Every BHCC faculty, staff, and student has their own WebEx account where they can create Scheduled Meetings or use their Personal Room to host meetings. Learn more or get started by visiting our WebEx for Faculty & Staff page in our AIDE Resources ePortfolio. You are also welcome to either drop into the AIDE Virtual innovation lab or schedule an appointment with our team to learn how to schedule your meetings.

Integrate your WebEx Meetings into your Moodle courses

The WebEx Education Connector allows BHCC Faculty & Staff to seamlessly integrate WebEx virtual settings into their Moodle courses. It is an efficient and convenient way to use various WebEx tools within Moodle without having to add student emails to an invitation list, or requiring them to actively “go” to different sites. Learn more about the integration.

WebEx FAQ's

Q: I can't find the Breakout session for my class meetings set up through the WebEx connector?

A: Breakouts need to be added manually to WebEx connector sessions.

Q: I get the error message, "Your WebEx authorization has expired. Please reauthorize WebEx ", when I try to create my class meetings using the WebEx Connector in Moodle?

A: Please go to your WebEx Connector, sign out of the application, and sign back in to fix the issue.

Q: Why do my students get the access denied error message when joining my class?

A: Students can only join Remote WebEx class sessions as a guest. They will not be able to join if they "sign-in" or "login."

If you require students to host their WebEx meeting sessions, students can sign in through bhccstudents.webex.com and not bhcc.webex.com to compose their meetings.

Digital Tool Of The Month

Smarthinking

Here at BHCC, we subscribe to Smarthinking, a 24/7 online tutoring service which offers both live and asynchronous tutoring in subjects such as Math and English. Students can work live one-on-one with a tutor in a whiteboard environment, submit a paper to get feedback from a tutor, or post a question and have a tutor respond to it later. They can log into Smarthinking directly from Moodle - no need to log in separately.

As stated in our Digital Learning Hub, each BHCC student is allotted 10 free hours to use for tutoring sessions. Once all free hours have been used, students are able to purchase additional tutoring hours at $24/hr. Visit our resources for more information.

Vaccination Status & Mask Usage

BHCC is currently Mask-Optional on all campuses and will remain mask-friendly. In accordance with the College’s mask policy announced on May 24, the College will only require masks when the CDC level is high.  For more information go to COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement - Bunker Hill Community College.

BHCC Onelogin Portal

Did you know every time you log into Moodle, Digication ePortfolio, Panopto, and WebEx that you’re actually authenticating through the Onelogin system? By accessing the Onelogin Portal at bhcc.onelogin.com, you can view all the apps that authenticate using this single-sign on. The BHCC Onelogin Portal is a great link to bookmark in your browser. If you are having issues with accessing the Onelogin single sign-on, you can contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@bhcc.edu.
