St. Francis Day Blessing of the Animals,
Sunday, October 2, at both services

On Sunday, October 2, we will celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at both the 8 and 10 o’clock services. Bring your well-behaved pets to church and the blessing will immediately follow each service. Pictures of pets "who don’t play as well with others” and stuffed animals are also of course welcome!
MEET OUR INTERIM RECTOR ...
The Rev. Stacey Grossman is Epiphany's Interim Rector
and will be the Celebrant at the 8 am and 10 am services this Sunday.
Dear all,

I
write to you this week from Healdsburg, specifically the Bishop’s Ranch, which is one of two diocesan retreat centers in the Diocese of California. This center sits on Pomo land, and I hope to learn more this week about what the Ranch is doing to understand the original human inhabitants of this land.

This past Sunday we celebrated Marian Smock and she gave a very moving account of her arrival at Epiphany and what transpired in her own life directly after her arrival. If you have not already, go to the Epiphany YouTube video and watch the very end of last week’s Sunday service to hear what Marian said. What struck me about her account was how as a new staff member of the congregation, she relied on the care of relative strangers in her time of greatest need.

Who among us can say this, that a community new to us changes us completely? During the interim time, we are going to invite people in our congregation to share their stories about coming to Epiphany …and why one would do that. I already know my own answer, but I invite you to ponder what this answer might be for you.

I am sure I have said this already, but did you know that the way that people find their way to a church for a first time is overwhelmingly from an invitation from a friend? As Emma posted on our Facebook page yesterday, what better day might this be than the celebration of the Blessing of the Animals, which we will celebrate this Sunday? We will celebrate at the tail end of both 8 and 10 am…if you are an online participant, please know that we will do everything we can to include you fully in this blessing, as we attempt to do in all we do online.

Pax et Bonum, as Franciscans, say…peace and all good! Stacey

The Resolution Town Hall provides clergy and delegates with a fuller understanding of each resolution, and allows for a more efficient use of time at the convention.

  • The Town Hall is open to the entire diocese, not just clergy and lay delegates.
  • A recording of the Resolution Town Hall will be posted on the Diocese Convention Webpage
  • There will be no action taken on the resolutions in the Town Hall meeting.

Climate Action Opportunity at Convention for Youth Representative

Do you know a young person concerned about climate change and ready to raise their voice to support meaningful climate action? The Commission on the Environment is seeking a young person (aged 30 or younger) to join our team at the upcoming Diocesan convention, Oct. 21-22 in Redding. We are championing a Climate Action Resolution that will be voted on by the delegates at the convention and we want to do all we can to ensure its passage. We value youth leadership and are seeking a young person to help:

  •  Staff an information table
  •  Talk to delegates about the resolution
  • Promote the Commission and our goals
  • Have fun!

We welcome your ideas and participation! A stipend is available to support travel costs. Please contact Miriam Casey, (650) 380-2747 mlcasey7@yahoo.com if you are interested.

This fire season has displaced many families across the diocese from El Dorado to Siskiyou Counties. Over the past year, Project (Re)Start has become an obvious and welcome sign of relief for those who have been left with little to nothing following disaster. The state of California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services has started asking for Project (Re)Start to be a part of Local Assistance Centers, because the Episcopal Church is becoming recognized for its compassion in action by providing material support to our neighbors in need.

So far in 2022, Project (Re)Start has:

  • Provided relief to survivors of five different fires
  • Deployed over 100 individual bins
  • Brought individual congregations together to work in partnership with each other
  • Introduced our congregations to community service organizations
  • Put smiles on the faces of survivors who were close to feeling defeated!
