Hi Cool Boulder Community — Happy
Pollinator Month! 🐝

Dear <<First Name>>,

We have so much to share with you about the activities we’re coordinating, supporting, and otherwise admiring here at the Cool Boulder Campaign!

First, a BIG welcome to all of you who recently joined this community by signing up at the recent REI Labor Day event.  Shout out to REI Store Manager Karen Repine and Team Leader Matt Ertel for generously making space for us to make connections with almost 100 of you who stopped by to learn more!

Second, September is Pollinator Month—by official City Council decree! For the past 7 years, we have been marking this month with the Boulder Bee Festival.  If you haven’t had a chance to come to one of these before, don’t miss it—it's tomorrow! There will be lots of fun, informative, and frankly, just plain sweet (ok, this is not a pun—it’s true!) activities that are a blast for kids and have tons of useful information for those who want to support our flying friends. You’ll learn how important the literally hundreds of native pollinator species we have in Colorado really are. Join us TOMORROW from 10-2 at Civic Center Park.

Third, there will be another Cool Boulder-sponsored event Monday evening Oct 10th to unveil an incredibly exciting new collaboration between ZeroFoodPrint / Restore Colorado and Cool Boulder. Together we’ll be hosting a happy hour at which you will learn more about a groundbreaking new approach to turning the economy into the service of climate stabilization through supporting local regenerative agriculture, land stabilization and regeneration, urban and community forestry, and other actions. Put a hold on your calendar for 5-7 PM on Oct 10th, and keep an eye out for details on our calendar.

Finally, below we want to feature some of the important efforts and recent articles written by Cool Boulder partner organizations, The transformative potential of this movement is powered by the remarkable creativity, innovation, and service of these many partner organizations.

And, we're always looking to grow the movement! If your organization is interested in becoming a Cool Boulder partner, simply reply to this email to start the conversation.

OK, more to come!  October’s theme is Harvest and we’ll be featuring the work of a number of Cool Boulder groups who are leading efforts to create sustainable, climate-compatible food systems.

We hope to see you tomorrow at the Boulder Bee Festival!

Onward,

Brett KenCairn, Heather Bearnes-Loza, and Daniel Hanson

+ Free Webinar with the Xerces Society: A Win-Win for Insects: Nature-Based Climate Solutions Address both Climate Change and Biodiversity Concerns (October 6)

Join Xerces Society Executive Director, Scott Black, as we kick off our next webinar series: Threats and Solutions. The loss of insect diversity is driven by habitat loss and degradation, pesticide use, climate change, diseases, and more. The science is clear: It is impossible to address the loss of biodiversity without addressing climate change, but equally impossible to tackle the full impacts of climate change without working to protect and enhance biodiversity. Scott will discuss how nature-based solutions can address both.

+ Volunteer with Community Fruit Rescue

It's apple season! Join the Community Fruit Rescue team to harvest the surplus fruit growing throughout Boulder's urban areas. Harvests are 2 hours long and are offered multiple times each day. Volunteers can take home a portion of the bounty at the end of each harvest, and the rest is donated locally to people in need. Even the inedible fruit is donated to the rescue animals at the Wild Animal Sanctuary! By participating in a CFR harvest, you are doing your part to help reduce food waste, minimize greenhouse gas emissions, coexist with local black bears, build resilient communities, and increase equitable access to healthy, local food. Get involved: register as a volunteer, sign up for a harvest, and start picking!

+ Be in the know with the PLAY Boulder Foundation

Founded in 1976, the PLAY Boulder Foundation serves as the official non-profit partner of the Boulder Parks and Recreation department. PLAY's mission is to support excellence in Boulder's parks and recreation by mobilizing community support through education, philanthropy, and advocacy. The organization strives to enhance local public spaces, preserve Boulder's environment, and expand access to recreation programs for all Boulder residents.
