St. James Season of Creation
Benefit Concert:  Songs to Heal a Weary Time
THIS Sunday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.

In the Season of Creation, we are reminded that freedom comes with responsibilities, to one another and to the natural world that sustains us. We don’t stand alone but are members of a community. We take but we must also give back to the people and natural systems upon which we depend.

On Sunday, September 25, Will Lane will present a program of original songs, entitled Songs to Heal a Weary Time, celebrating community and our connections with each other and the Earth.

A freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Gettysburg Green Gathering Scholarship Fund in support of environmental education.

Join the Miracle Workers for Movie Nights and Lunch in September!

All are Welcome to attend!
We had a great turn out for the Fall Festival last Sunday, including many adorable pets for the blessing!  The kids had a fun time with the games, the music by Sharon Kaya and Ernie Kranias is always enjoyable, and the food and fellowship was a great way to enter into fall.

Many thanks to the helpful hands during set-up and tear down, and for the many hands who prepared and coordinated the food.

We hope you'll make it to next year's Fall Festival & Blessing of the Animals!
As part of the Season of Creation, a Planting of the Trees event is planned for Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to noon.  You can sign up in the Gathering Area beginning October 1 or email Kay MacDowell at joekaym65@gmail.com. More details will follow.  (Photos from 2017 Earth Day Tree Planting)

Join in and help celebrate creation!

We're looking forward to our Annual Halloween Open House set for Tuesday, October 25.  This year we plan to have our games and activities in the church.  Jonathan will also be be playing some un-earthly organ music too.

This is an excellent evangelism event, as we intentionally plan it to coincide with the Gettysburg Halloween Parade.  But the staff can't coordinate it alone.  We need your help!  If you are able to help plan, organize and procure supplies for crafts, games, and snacks, we would really appreciate your help!

Please see Pastor Andrew or Katy if you can lend a hand in the preparation!

Call Committee

Yes, the Call Committee is still writing the Ministry Site Profile. This form is 10 pages long before we even put anything down! We have completed a number of the sections which require carefully described responses. We return often to the data we collected from your input in the survey and Listening Sessions to inform our thoughts and answers. Thanks for your continued patience with us as we carry on this work. We hope to complete the document early in October. Following will be a joint meeting of our Congregation Council, the Call Committee and the Assistant to the Bishop, the Rev. Beth Martini, who is working with us to review the entire MSP. We will certainly share it with you once it is finished.

Here is an excerpt of a section we’ve completed:

Energy:
What is your congregation or organization really excited about right now?

Our welcome statement, open arms for all who worship, is embraced by a caring congregation. Our church continues to make strides in Reconciling in Christ, and not only encouraging, but earnestly seeking the growth of diversity in our membership.

Our attention to Stewardship and Creation Care, as we teach and share our spiritual responsibility to care for our world, is an ongoing focus. Members are encouraged to consider the ecological impact we are having on the world God has created for us. Creation is the focus of worship for the months of September and October. The Creation Care Task Force challenged the congregation to take part in the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership, adding to the goal of planting 10 million native trees and shrubs in Pennsylvania by 2025. The Task force challenged the congregation to plant 250 trees. Approximately 325 have been ordered by congregation members and are being planted.

We are blessed with an energetic and, more importantly, harmonious staff, each of whom approaches their responsibilities with a special love and caring for faith and for our members.
