Dear Participants,
Thank you for attending the CCS4CEE conference in Brussels on the 6th of September 2022. It was great to see so much interest in CCS developments in Central and Eastern Europe.
As you heard from the representatives of DG ENERGY and DG CLIMA during the event, the European Commission continues its engagement with CCS stakeholders through the CCUS Forum.
The first edition of the CCUS Forum took place in October 2021 and demonstrated a growing interest in CCS deployment. More recently, three Working Groups have been formed to support the European Commission in preparing a CCUS Vision that would lay out the actions needed to create an enabling environment for CCS policies and projects in Europe.
The following Working Groups are currently underway:
-
WG CCUS Vision
-
WG CO2 infrastructure
-
WG Industrial Partnerships
While some of you might already be following the work of the Forum and its Working Groups, we would like to encourage a more impactful contribution from the CEE stakeholders. Furthermore, a more prominent voice of energy-intensive industry representatives in particular is needed to balance the CCS debate, which currently seems to be dominated by the oil and gas sector. A stronger representation of industrial sectors would send a clear signal to the EU authorities and civil society that heavy industry needs CCS in its transition to a climate-neutral economy. Thus, we strongly encourage your participation in the workings of the CCUS Forum.
The next CCUS Forum will take place in Oslo on the 27th of October 2022, where the first outcomes of the WGs work will be presented.
If you are interested in following and contributing to the work of the CCUS Forum and its Working Groups, we are offering our support in connecting you with the relevant services in the European Commission. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
Best regards,
