After a break we are back for another issue of our newsletter, with members of the team taking part in a wide range of events across Europe:
- In early September, Flora D’Anna, Rafael Andrade Buono and Bert Droesbeke travelled to Tartu in Estonia for the first face-to-face BY-COVID hackathon. Whilst there, a workshop kickstarted the design of the Infectious Diseases Toolkit website. Based on what the community has learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, it will provide guidelines, best practices, and solutions on handling of data related to infectious diseases.
- In mid September, a number of our partners attended and contributed to the ECCB 2022 meeting in Barcelona. Frederik Coppens presented on Research Data Management in ELIXIR, while Wim Vranken showed the synergies between the ELIXIR 3D-Bioinfo, proteomics and IDP communities.
- Rounding out September, Flora D’Anna and Rafael Andrade Buono travelled to Padua for the ELIXIR-CONVERGE meeting. During this meeting, WP1 defined a place for the research data management (RDM) community within ELIXIR beyond the CONVERGE project. Moreover, WP8/9 drew a plan to finalise and strengthen the resources developed to annotate, share and analyse COVID-19 related data in a FAIR way and to make them reusable for other pathogens.

The CHIST-ERA project has an open call for proposals for Open & Re-usable Research Data & Software. CHIST-ERA is a consortium of research funding organisations in Europe and beyond supporting use inspired basic research in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) or at the interface between ICT and other domains. The consortium itself is supported by Horizon 2020 and is part of the European Innovation Council’s Pathfinder programme.
This call tackles the challenge of open research data and software from the perspective of possible reuse. The objective is to create the conditions for research in any domain based on open or shared data and software. Hence, applicants should address in their project at least one of the following target outcomes:
- Create, enrich or prepare ‘reference' data sets
- ‘Editorialization’ of data
- Processes and tools to describe, share, reference and archive software source code
The deadline for proposal submission is 14 December 2022
