Hi dear art lovers, creatives and otherwise interested ones,
It has been ages since I wrote a newsletter, and some of you might think "Did I sign up for this?" Yes you did. But it could have been a while ago hehe.
In the background I've been shifting my focus more and more on the things I really want to be doing, and bringing my newsletter back to life is one of them. Letting go of old habits holding me back, cleaning up those loose ends to make space for new things; it is all part of prioritising and outlining the conditions I need to work on my own projects, in stead of letting my precious time be swallowed whole by too much client work and too many workshops.
Almost all creatives I know recognise this as being one of the hardest things of our field, because saying 'NO' is hard and every one of those projects is very interesting as well. So who are we to complain, right? But I had to limit my freelance jobs and workhsops to find the time and energy somewhere.
And I can tell you one thing: that's pretty scary.
Because redirecting my focus turns out to be quite the process, I'll devote some of my upcoming newsletters to sharing the fallbacks and successes of this shift, for those that might relate ♥. Please let me know if you do and how you deal or dealt with similar transformations?
But for now, let me start with an invitation
to my open studio this weekend.
Hope to see you there!

As for interesting projects, I would like to highlight Voedselbos Mariahoeve, the most recent initiative by De Tuinen van Mariahoeve.
For this beautiful location at the edge of The Hague, I will be making an illustration showing all the layers of their food-forest, all the edible plants and trees and their purpose. We will be using QR-codes to bring you to all the info on their website.

Right now we are in the sketching phase and this picture shows Jan & Marjan contemplating on the best overview for the map. They have special days for volunteers to help build up the location and share their knowledge through lovely culinary workshops.

Toverbosch is my dearest distraction, because being there with my hands in the dirt recharges me and seeing all those happy faces is just great.
So it was time to take our magic Toverbosch combo to the next level: With our new project BeestjesBende we combine Art Education and Nature Education in small series of 3 outdoor lessons about all sorts of animals, plants and nature.

|
We will bring it all together in an exhibition of the results of the first 2 series, made by the kids themselves. The first series in October is about bugs and has space for 20 kids. It is a great project to be working on, so please check it out and join our little club of adventurers.

Saturday 15th, 22nd and 29th of October, our first series of BeestjesBende workshops at Toverbosch. Creative courses for kids about animals, plants and other themes from nature.
Sign up through the website.
