October of Yesteryear…

In this October edition of the history bulletin, we thought we would share some images of yesteryear when the Pioneers Days Battle Creek Centennial was held. These photos were taken on October 5th & 6th, 1931. The two day event not only included a pioneer village, but also a parade in downtown.

In this photo (above), it shows a horse drawn streetcar, from an earlier era. However, if you look closely you can see the interurban tracks in the street. This month on October 15th, we will be featuring guest speaker Keith Martin on Interurban history, which is an event you will not want to miss!

Also featured this month are some calendar topics on True Crime from the 1800’s as well as some Ghostly Tales from history! You will want to mark your calendar for these fun events!

The History Education Center

In August, we launched our campaign fundraiser for the History Education Center project. This fundraising project involves creating a dynamic space to deliver history presentations, reinactments, storytelling, author presentations and so much more. The campaign will fund the AV system, acoustic dampening, amplifiers systems, internet, floor to ceiling photos of historical heroes and heroines, as well as lighting and more. To read about and to donate to this campaign, which runs through October 15th, please visit: Patronicity.com/History

Join the 1850 Club!

We are pleased to introduce the new 1850 Club at the Battle Creek Regional History Museum. Why 1850 Club you might ask? 1850 was the year that Battle Creek officially became chartered as a village in the State of Michigan. It also was a time of a thriving milling industry, the Underground Railroad, spirited public gatherings, the Michigan Central Railroad bringing circuses and entertainment, parades, and so much more for this emerging community.

In the spirit of tradition from this wonderful pioneer time in our history, we have established the 1850 Club to provide continual support for the Battle Creek Regional History Museum, to preserve our local history for generations to come. It will offer a higher level of membership benefits for those that enroll in the program, above that of our standard membership.

By joining the 1850 Club, you commit to making a monthly recurring donation of $18.50 to the museum (or an annual donation of $222) and receive all of the benefits of the standard Museum membership, plus:

  • Email Subscription to the exclusive 1850 Club Newsletter: The Carriage Club

  • A bonus free guest pass for all speaking events

  • 15% Club discounts on all online museum merchandise

  • 10% Club discounts on all gift store items

  • Free admission to 1850 Club member only events
