What's New and What Isn't
September 2022

Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,

One of our prayers over the years has been, "Lord, wherever you send us, don't let us stay a day too long or let us leave a day too soon."  That is still our prayer!

Enjoy this video of our missionary journey from 2006 to today.
Our first prayer card
Heather and Sean shared with the incoming MKs about living through transition--something we've experienced plenty of.  Joey is the vice-president of CIU's Mu Kappa group this year.
Sean shared an online devotional with 70+ believers from the Southeast Caribbean on "Our God is a Missionary God."

World Team is connected with church associations in 11 countries in the Caribbean.
Sean and Heather are traveling to SE Asia next week for World Team's Global Leaders' Meetings.  Sean's new role is to help the International Director to catalyze prayer and growth in Gospel-awareness in our members' lives and ministries.

Smaller slices of the pie of Sean's new job description include:

Priority projects, like reaching new immigrants in Canada.
Leadership Team for the America's Area
Creating missionary training resources.
Helping our members to live in sexual wholeness and integrity.
Sean and Heather will be the Missionaries of the Week at SMBC in Sydney, Australia the second week of October.  Besides speaking in chapel and to a group of high school students, our main role is to talk with students about missions.  Our chapel message will be "Your Family on the Field."
CIU's 100th Anniversary kick-off begins the first week of November with a missions conference.  Sean will present a seminar that Friday on multi-cultural teams.

In December and January, Sean will teach The Gospel of John to interns and members of World Team's "The International Neighborhood Network--the INN" which is planting churches among refugees and recent immigrants throughout the United States.

We are grateful to God that we can serve Him in global missions and live in the same city with our sons.  It's good for them and for us and we know that even this is for a season, but we'll take it while we can get it!
Obedience and Mobility

When Israel was between Egypt and the Promised Land, God led them in this way:

When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the LORD's order and did not set out. Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the LORD's command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. At the LORD's command they encamped, and at the LORD's command they set out. They obeyed the LORD's order, in accordance with his command through Moses.
Numbers 9:19-23

That is our desire -- to follow the Lord's leading wherever, whenever to do whatever He commands.  And even better for us, in the new covenant through Jesus Christ, we have His Spirit living in us.  That's better than a cloud!  One firm conviction from Jesus' words recorded in John 15 is that for God's children, that which is for His greatest glory is also for our greatest joy.  Once you believe that, you'll follow Jesus anywhere.
Haiti Updates

For the month of August our students from the remote Grande Anse region attended class on campus. It was difficult at times because of fuel shortages and protests, but it was good to have them study at the main campus.

Haiti is in turmoil

Official fuel prices doubled last week, but black market prices have been in the $20 - $30 per gallon range for weeks. There have been country-wide organized protests against the government's inaction to the gang violence and the unsupportable level of inflation.  The Bible School is now closed until further notice and Radio Lumiere has had to drastically reduce their broadcasting hours since they can't buy fuel to run their generators. Food supplies are low and many relief depots have been looted recently.
Prayer Topics

  • Pray for MEBSH leaders to know how to shepherd God's flock during this current crisis.
  • Pray for Erik's health. He still suffers from chronic fatigue.
  • Pray for Sean and Heather's travels -- for safety and especially for fruitful conversations and presentations.
  • Pray for us for God's peace during this time of ministry transition.  We are still adapting to life in the U.S. and our hearts are breaking for our Haitian friends.
  • Pray for our family to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength.
Thank you and we love you!
