Dear <<First Name>>,

This week, we are celebrating breaking ground on 74 new childcare spaces for parents at Capilano University. By providing affordable housing, childcare, and transportation, we are breaking down barriers to training and workforce participation and getting everyone future ready. We're helping parents achieve their post-secondary goals by removing roadblocks like finding child care and giving them peace of mind while they study. Together with Capilano University, we're working hard to help prepare people for the jobs of tomorrow.

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:
B.C. releases expert recommendations on repeat offending

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their communities. We received expert recommendations that will help shape actions to keep people and communities safe and connect people who have been committing repeat offences with the support they need to break out of that cycle. We’re determined to address the serious issue of repeated criminal activity that’s hurting communities across the province.

Care enhanced for people at risk of suicide, facing mental-health crisis

People experiencing mental-health challenges, particularly thoughts of suicide and self-harm, will benefit from improved quality of care in mental-health and substance-use treatment settings.

“When people are in a mental-health crisis, we want them to receive the best possible care. That’s why our government is making system-wide improvements to transform care for those experiencing mental-health crises and suicide thoughts,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.

Government helps raise readers with investment in literacy

Literacy is an essential skill that opens so many doors for children and their families. This year, our government is donating $500,000 to the yearly Raise-a-Reader campaign to support literacy programs offered through community organizations, public libraries and schools.

Nearly 55,000 kids, parents, and caregivers in B.C., including rural, remote and Indigenous communities, can access family literacy programs to improve their reading skills through the annual Raise-a-Reader campaign.
