Rotterdam 22-25 September
Amsterdam 29 September-2 October

The 17th edition of CAMERA JAPAN starts on Thursday in Amsterdam. Our programmers have put together an amazing selection for LAB111. Four whole days packed with the latest in Japanese cinema! Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

There are some tough choices to make, but help is at hand. On our website, you can browse the programme, watch film trailers, and buy tickets. You can also download the handy blokkenschema overview of films and events.

We are pleased to say that seven of the top ten titles in the running for the CAMERA JAPAN Audience Award will also screen at LAB111 this week. Check our website to see how Rotterdam voted.

It is particularly exciting to once again welcome guests from Japan to the festival. Director KOUMEI 高明 and lead actor MORIMOTO Nobu 森本のぶ will be at the screening of Spotlight on Friday 30 September to answer your questions.
Do come along and make them feel at home at CAMERA JAPAN!
In collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, we will screen four newly restored features by TANAKA Kinuyo in October. An iconic actor, TANAKA turned to directing in 1953, becoming Japan’s second female filmmaker and the only woman making films during the Golden Age of Japanese cinema in the late 1950s.

From small beginnings in 2006, CAMERA JAPAN has grown into the biggest Japanese cultural festival in the Benelux. Every year, we work hard to screen a broad and diverse cross-section of current Japanese cinema and to organize a substantial side programme with strong links to Japanese culture.

But, like so many other cultural organisations and institutions, CAMERA JAPAN has been hit by decreasing subsidies and rising costs. Thinking about new ways to finance the festival and to offer more value to you, the audience, we came up with the CAMERA JAPAN Kurabu ("kurabu" is the Japanese for club).

The CAMERA JAPAN Kurabu is not a one-off fundraising initiative like Kickstarter, but an opportunity for us to develop long-term relationships with fans of CAMERA JAPAN. You will play a key part in keeping the festival going and you will help us create what we like to think is a very special experience in the Netherlands. So, are you a Momo, an Ume, or a Sakura?

All the details are on our website.
This festival is part of the Rotterdam Festivals.
