Dear Parents,

It's a busy and exciting week ahead at Niwot Elementary. On Tuesday evening (9/27) we have our Watch D.O.G.S. informational meeting. Come and learn about the program, have some pizza, and get signed up for a spot on the calendar. On Friday evening (9/30) we have our Outdoor Movie Night. Come and enjoy "Minions:The Rise of Gru". There will be a Kona Ice truck and Dos Manos Tacos truck, or feel free to bring your own dinner and snacks. Finally, on Sunday morning (10/2) we have the Niwot Trot 5K Run & Walk. Come out and join hundreds of your closest friends, neighbors, and community members as you run, jog, trot or simply walk on the professionally timed flat, out and back 5km (3.1mile) course.

It's going to be a great week! I'm excited to be a part of each event. Please let us know if you have any questions at all.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pitz

Introducing Ben Stratton

We are excited to welcome Ben Stratton to Niwot Elementary, one of our new ASD paras. Ben recently moved to Boulder from Connecticut, where he graduated from University of Eastern Connecticut State University with a degree in English and a focus in Elementary Education. Ben student taught in 1st grade and he also has instructional para and summer programming experience. In his free time he enjoys painting models, playing with his two cats and experiencing all Colorado has to offer. Ben explained that he really never thought about working in special education before this job and now he can't imagine doing anything else. He added, "This has been the best experience I've ever had in any job. I love this school community. I love these kids. I  have definitely found my calling." Welcome to Niwot Elementary Ben. We are very lucky to have you!

Our character trait of the month is respect. This month we are talking with students about respect and what it means at school, in relationships, at home, and in the community. Students also need to show respect for others even when they are different from them. We will be watching for examples of respect throughout September. Students that go above and beyond in demonstrating this character trait will receive a brag tag to add to their collection. We look forward to celebrating our Respect student's of the Month at our October PBIS assembly.  Please also celebrate any observations of respect in your own home and the community with your child!

  • Creating presentations to share with all students at Niwot Elementary.

Dear Niwot Feeder School Parents,

On Tuesday, September 27th from 6:00-7:30pm, the College Funding Coach will offer a free web workshop.  There is no cost (except your time) to attend.
As you can imagine, the stock market has gone up and gone down.  Taxes have gone up and gone down.  Unemployment has increased and then decreased.  But two things have remained constant every year: approximately 20 million high school students head off to college, and since 2000, the cost of tuition and fees at American colleges has more than tripled the rate of inflation.
Whether you have a preschool student or a senior in high school, you will learn valuable information that is timely for you. I have seen the workshop and am excited to participate.
I've attached a flyer about The College Funding Coach event. Register by clicking on the following link: College Funding Coach Registration
While the event is free of charge, registration is appreciated.

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

For questions, please contact Audrey Lenger, lenger_audrey@svvsd.org
