Another update from Sean! These newsletters often skew text-heavy, but this time I'm just throwing a bunch of images and dates at you! Sorry, not sorry. Regardless, scroll away!
I am finishing up my last semester of graduate school! I have only a few credits left to complete, and then I'll hopefully have a terminal degree. On top of my own studies, I am also continuing to facilitate several sections of non-majors ballet classes, occasionally guest teaching the majors level ballet classes, and (I think) giving a lecture in a Japanese Cultures class in November? I'm such an instructor lately!
Otherwise, I'm continuing to dance and make work. Above/below, you'll notice shots of The Great Restoration at Plays & Players for Philadelphia Dance Day in July as part of my Re:Yé-Yé Series. The next rendition will be performed for the Iowa Dance Festival at The James Theater in Iowa City. (Photos by Nathan Kuruna)
Also over the summer: I collaborated with Anne-Marie Mulgrew on dance video Un petite love story … six feet apart 2022, to be shown at an upcoming Anne-Marie Mulgrew & Dancers Company performance.
I had the opportunity to present Seanshuuraku (solo ver.) at Dixon Place in New York City as part of HOT! Festival in July. The longer, more elaborate version performed as part of my MFA thesis can be found here.
Just a Skosh was recently released online. I'll perform a "live version" at Public Space One as part of Iowa Dance Festival's Cx3: Contemporary Creative Community installation performance in October.
In September, Like the End and the Way was created and performed for the Iowa Composers Society's 24 +24 Concert at Voxman Concert Hall with dancer Lauren Linder, composer M Denney, and saxophonist Eugene Ryoo.
Most recently, I performed Last Resort at Iowa City Climate Fest in Chauncey Swan Park last week alongside Department of Dance colleagues. I still have bug bites from rolling around on the lawn! (Photo by Jack Brooks)
