Cairns home aged care support roll out starts

Greater support for older people living in their own homes is being rolled out in Cairns as a program for people in Far North Queensland launches Wednesday.

The Home Care Workforce Support Program will see more people attracted to train locally to work and stay working in the aged care sector so more older people can stay in their homes.

A consortium including Council on the Aging Queensland, Skills Hubs and Skills Generation is bringing together providers, training and employment organisations to address the current workforce shortage in the Cairns region.

An extra 2,400 workers are needed over two years for older Queenslanders with approved home care providers and registered training organisations in The Home Care Workforce Support Program to make this happen.
