Featured Pet:
Luna is a great lounger! She is a beautiful black cat born in January 2021. When she’s happy she makes biscuits. She’s not too interested in toys–unless there is catnip involved. Luna likes to get your attention, but on her own terms. She prefers to sleep next to you than sit on your lap. She loves running water so a water fountain is a must! Luna is very talkative and is quite food motivated.
.
She has been a little anxious lately, living with other kitties, so she will be happiest being the only pet in your home. Apply to adopt her here

Volunteer Focus:
We are a foster-based rescue run completely by volunteers. We have been lucky to have good people who work in pet stores, assist at events, transport, review applications, interview potential fosters/adopters, and work behind the scenes to be sure we can move forward in our mission. Join us!

Neverending Kitten Season 2022

Kitten season is the period when female cats most commonly give birth to litters (typically April through October, although it can happen all year). Longer days, warmer weather and a large stray and feral community means rescues and shelters are overwhelmed with kittens. This year, we have taken in over 100 kittens since April. Hart 2 Heart is committed to educating the commuity on the importance of spay/neuter to prevent over-population.

The best way to help alleviate overcrowding in rescues is to ensure that cats are spayed/neutered. This surgery is included in all our adoptions. If you are considering adopting or fostering, please contact us. We are confident we can find a good match for you. Apply today.

Don't forget older pets

Older pets are often overlooked during kitten season. Bella is an 11 year old tabby saved from euthanasia earlier this Summer. She is the SWEETEST cat. Bella loves attention and would love to do nothing more than sit on your lap all day.  She is a senior cat being treated for diabetes and needs insulin twice a day. Bella needs a foster who is comfortable giving medication and can maintain this schedule.

Sweetie is a 14 year old senior cat true to her name.  She is looking for a home in a calm house with no kids or dogs. She’s also a bit of a flirt with men. While she is sweet, she can be a bit spicy when she wants to finish her nap – who hasn’t wanted to hit the snooze button when napping?  She is very vocal and will talk your ear off if you listen to her.

As senior cats, both Bella and Sweetie are eligible for our Senior for Seniors program which waives adoption fees to seniors.  Otherwise, the fee is $75. If you would like to foster Bella, Sweetie, or any of our foster-ready animals, please complete a foster applicationSee more about all our pets on our website.

Why Microchip?

A microchip is the best assurance you can have that you will get your pet back should he or she run away or get lost. It is a permanent form of identification, about the size of a grain of rice, that is inserted painlessly beneath the skin. The microchip lasts the life of your pet, unlike a collar or ID tag. The chip uses RFID technology and contains a unique number that is registered with your up-to-date contact information. Microchips help thousands of lost pets get home safely each year. All Hart 2 Heart animals have this protection.

Happily Ever After
Emily & Peachy
I had been fostering for Hart 2 Heart and had cared for 5 or 6 kitties over a year or so. In the fall of 2019, Cissy came my way. A very sweet, gray and white cat; I’m not even sure what her back story was, but now she was under my care. She had very sore teeth, as can be common with street cats.

At first, I had to chop up even her canned food, I heated it up, and she sat on my lap as she ate from the dining room table. It was the only way I could get her to eat. We scheduled dental surgery and had several of her worst teeth removed. What a difference! She could eat freely. This was all happening during the height of the pandemic, and adoptions were initially at a low, do I decided I would keep this little one.
Before long, her mouth pain came back. She would start to eat and then suddenly shriek in pain and run away when some food hit a bad tooth. So, we scheduled another dental surgery, and that did the trick! What is most strange to me is that now that she can eat without pain, she almost always goes for the dry food, even with only a very few teeth left. Because of Cissy’s bravery through all this, I wanted to rename her (she is no cissy!) I would always tell her she was such a Pretty Girl, then I shortened it to PG, which morphed into Peachy. Today Peachy is a sweet and happy companion.
