Barrier Busters: Single-use Plastic! Wednesday 30 Nov, 4-5pm

In this session we'll be focusing on the topic of Single Use Plastic! A subject that students were particularly interested in at Sustainers Fest earlier this year.

We'd like to explore co-designing a possible reusable bottle campaign with schools. The session will take place on Wednesday 30 November, 4pm.

The Barrier Buster sessions are aimed at overcoming some of the barriers experienced by schools delivering on the charter commitments. These sessions are led by Think and Do and supported by Camden Council.

N.B. November will be our last barrier buster session of the year, with sessions resuming again in January 2023.

Winter rewilding projects... gone wild!

15 schools will also receive 25 fruit trees by the end of this month, supporting ongoing rewilding projects.

3 schools will receive 'jammy hedges' in the upcoming months and we're looking for 2 more schools to receive them!

Would you like to join Hampstead School, Regent's High and UCL Academy in receiving a hedgerow?

We're particularly keen to hear from schools located next to busy main roads. The 'jammy hedges' will consist of 200 free bare-root shrubs and be ready for planting by the team from December - February.

Jammy hedges help to promote biodiversity and encourage pollinators whilst also acting as a buffer for air pollution around congested school areas.

Free carbon literacy workshops for primary schools

Climate Ed is a registered charity which sends trained volunteers into primary schools to deliver workshops about climate science and carbon literacy. The programme is free, aimed at Years 5 and 6 and consists of five one-hour workshops spread over five weeks. The sessions cover:

1. Climate change and its impacts
2. Carbon in our travel
3. Carbon in our food
4. Carbon in our stuff
5. Knowledge quiz game and evaluation

Sessions are delivered by volunteers who are passionate about the subject and often have specific expertise through their work. The charity has worked with many schools and councils across London, and they now have volunteers available in Camden ready to start visiting schools!

Teachers! Share your views on climate change and sustainability education 

Schools who complete the survey will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £100 prizes, to purchase climate change and sustainability teaching resources.

Veolia Sustainable Schools Competition

Veolia's Sustainable Schools Competition encourages KS3, 4 and 5 students to design a project to support climate action in their school, college or local area.

Veolia is asking students to research and present the issues impacting their local environment and to offer an innovative real-world solution in response. The winning applicants will receive up to £1,000 funding to get their project off the ground.

Students can submit either a video, a poster, or a short essay on their proposed project.

Would your primary like to take part in a pilot Climate Empowerment Programme?

Climate Psychologists are an organisation delivering education programmes to support climate awareness, climate wellbeing and climate action.

The team are developing an environmental educational platform to help create an impactful programme that delivers innovative and easy to implement lesson plans, activities and training for educators to support young people through the climate crisis.

They would like to work with primary school teachers to collect feedback and take part in a pilot:

Cohort A: 5-10 teachers to review a lesson and/or piece of content and feedback suggestions in a 45-minute feedback session.

Cohort B: w/c 9 Jan implement training/lesson facilitation with students (ideally x5 classes over 2 weeks but this can be flexible)
